The delivery specialist and new delivery trends.
Delivery trends are not that old. In fact, at home delivery isn’t that old when compared to the drive-thru. There was a time, before the drive-thru became a normal thing, that everyone parked and then physically entered the restaurant. Before the drive-thru became a thing, that was the process. Furthermore, no one really thought too much about it. Obviously, fast food wasn’t that fast, back in the day.
Finally, someone got the idea to try a drive-thru. From there a trend developed. There was great success in the convenience of the drive-thru, so it stuck. Next thing we knew, every place had a drive-thru. The at home delivery had a similar success story. Once upon a time, hot fresh food went to an at home delivery. And from there another trend began. It didn’t take long for the at home delivery to become ultra popular. Similarly, it was festive. There was something cool and super convenient about having a ready to eat, hot fresh meal, delivered to the front door.
It was basic. And it was convenient and fun. Furthermore, a new industry was getting its start. The delivery driver was poised to become something more than just a delivery expert. After years of trends, and the introduction of the delivery app, the delivery specialist arrived. Furthermore, the delivery specialist takes it much further than just the basic hot fresh food delivery. The delivery specialist specializes in multiple delivery types.
The Delivery Specialist
From point A to point B. Get the pickup, make the drop-off. It’s a fast trip sometimes. Other times it can become a complicated set of missed deadlines, incomplete orders, and excessive wait times. Furthermore, there’s often no warning before a snafu happens. Add to that the absence of a home base and the side hustle courier naturally evolves into a delivery specialist. The delivery specialist, gets the job done. Every time.

With this in mind, it sounds like it’s an easy process. Learning on the fly, fronting the work, and using personal resources. And there are times when the process happens smoothly, and things fall into place. This comes from the courier actively working for the delivery completion. Not just getting it done. But getting past the obstacles, and still getting it done. In the same amount of time, or less. This is one way the courier becomes a delivery specialist.
Trial and error. Or trial by fire. It’s the experience that creates the delivery specialist. When the courier has an odd story about a freaky delivery, it was likely a trial by fire. In other words, the courier got the experience, by experiencing it. In this way the courier learns new delivery trends. The courier learns them before they become a trend. Furthermore, it’s safe to say that some delivery types need a delivery specialist.
New Delivery Trends
The alcohol delivery. It is one of the most popular deliveries. However, it also involves risk and the ability to say no. Its delivery type is high risk because alcohol is involved. There are several conditions that must be met at the door of the at home customer. Failure of any one of those conditions is cause to cancel the delivery. Immediately. This makes the delivery unique, but not trendy.
There are several steps to complete once the at home customer appears at the door. The hand off, but if it’s an alcohol delivery, the verification comes first. Knowing the rules for an alcohol delivery is the mark of a delivery specialist. Similarly, knowing the rules of the pickup is just as important. For example, a grocery delivery. These can be app specific, because different apps have different delivery clients. However, there is a process, and the quicker the courier can accomplish it, the quicker there is pay.

Delivery returns are trending. For the courier, it might feel strange to work a delivery in reverse. However, it’s not difficult for the delivery specialist. The courier arrives at the usual drop-off location. An at home customer has a delivery item that needs returning. The courier is there to collect the item, and physically make the return. The compensation is in the completion of the return.
More for the delivery specialist
Between completing returns. And delivering more alcohol than Capone ever did, the delivery specialist stays busy. Grocery deliveries take time. Alcohol deliveries take attention to detail. A delivery from point A to point B is quickest when in a straight line. However, stacked deliveries challenge delivery logistics every time. Furthermore, the difference between an on time drop-off, and a late drop-off, can be that double stack. The app isn’t the matchmaker it wants to be. Sometimes there are pairings that make little sense.
This is where the experience comes into play. Routes are up to the courier. Sometimes a well chosen route makes all the difference. The delivery specialist catches it early on. It’s an internal selection of routes, through visualization. What appears complex to the new courier, is experience. All that experience creates the specialist. From there, the complex, becomes basic. Stay safe out there.
