What happens between the lines and special notes
Out on the open road. An adventure waiting to unfold. And that’s what drives. Truth be told. Every mile a courier travels, is one more toward the next delivery completion. After a while, the miles add up. In fact they add up fast. Furthermore, that comes with a significant amount of time being present on the road. In other words, couriers dedicate large amounts of time to traveling on down the road.
With this in mind, it doesn’t take long to encounter all the other interesting things happening on the road. Things like near misses. Or the worst of the red light runners. All these things are happening, between the lines. And usually at speed. Furthermore, at any given time, there could be a traffic standstill. The lines still contain the action, but it’s in slow motion.
Slow motion isn’t so bad. Sure it hinders a timely delivery, however it has less risk than the high velocity, cannonball run. Extreme amounts of time on the road are best when met with patience. Almost all couriers understand the importance of patience on the road. One half of the job is navigating the local roads. The courier that loses their patience quickly is likely to see a darker traffic pattern between the lines.
What happens between the lines
The amount of time spent on the road is important. Couriers build experience on the road. The job demands the ability to expertly maneuver a vehicle in unfamiliar places. Not only unfamiliar places, but also tight and sometimes impossible, spaces. Without taking out a mailbox. Or the strange, but funny, yard ornament.

And if that isn’t enough, it is a courier best practice to hustle whenever possible. Yet the hustle must be tempered with safety. A courier can lose more than a delivery in a traffic event. Therefore, what happens between the lines should always be a matter of safety first. This strategy really affects the bottom line as well.
Speeding is one of the top ways to get a traffic citation. Furthermore, it doesn’t help to declare a delivery emergency either. Speed limits exist for a reason. Even if the reason is debatable, the citation will still be issued. In other words, the police officer is still going to write the ticket. Therefore road conduct, as well as etiquette, are a benefit for the courier. Just like a special note.
Special Notes
They are there on the dispatch screen. It might be an alert. Or possibly a drop down menu. However they show up on many deliveries. It’s a special note and they are another important part of the delivery experience. Delivery customers rely on them to fine tune their delivery and couriers rely on them for a successful completion.
The special can be almost anything. However it is most often a reminder for a drink, or additional items, that weren’t in the original order. Sometimes it is a special instruction. For example, a specific place to leave a delivery. Or a preferred contact method, like knock twice, or don’t ring the bell. These particular details matter. Furthermore, they could be the difference between higher and lower earnings. Keep an eye out for them, and stay safe out there.
