The double stack drop-off and the last minute beverage

The double stack drop-off and the last minute beverage.

It shows up out of nowhere. The bonus offer that creates a stack. It can happen while the courier is on the way to the pickup location. It can also happen while the courier is waiting at a pickup location. The chances are good that the second offer is relative in some way. Either it’s very close to the current pickup. Or the drop-off of the second delivery, is close to the first drop-off. Therefore, the double stack is a worthwhile gamble.

At least, that’s what the app proposes. It’s really down to the courier if the proposed double stack makes sense. That isn’t to say that the delivery app doesn’t make efficient connections. However, the delivery app makes connections based on logic, and details, available to the delivery app. The courier has to take those connections, and cross reference them with personal circumstances. For example, slim resources, or possible limitations on time, or equipment.

With this in mind, a decision to take on a double stack delivery is about efficiency. The courier sees an opportunity to increase earnings, without using up additional resources. Likewise, the delivery app sees an opportunity to get more than one delivery accomplished without using up additional resources. Furthermore, there is a courier already in the vicinity. This could turn into a win win if the offer is right.

    The Double Stack Drop-off

Once a double stack is in the courier’s queue, it’s a matter of following the delivery app’s process. Some delivery apps allow the courier to toggle between the two deliveries. Other apps do not. However, for the apps that do allow the toggle, the courier can adjust the order of the drop-off. This helps prevent the rare occurrence of passing by one delivery drop-off to get to the other. Then backtracking to the previously passed, drop-off location.

    double stack

However, in most cases the courier can follow the process in the app. There are predetermined times for each step, and the app is making adjustments based on the courier’s proximity. This allows the courier more time to focus on accuracy. And accuracy in a double stack delivery is very important. For example, there are two separate orders. Each one has a detailed list of food items. Additionally, each order has several drinks. Fountain drinks. How can a courier keep everything separated and intact?

Very carefully. And that might sound like an attempt at humor, however it is the exact method. It takes careful observation, and close supervision, of all the items in the double stack. Furthermore, keeping the orders separated in the vehicle, is a pro tip. In fact, it might seem like a redundant waste of time, but it is incredibly easy to get orders mixed up. Particularly if they have no identifying receipts attached.

    The Last Minute Beverage

The gentle reminder. Most delivery apps have a reminder feature that pops up when the courier is near the drop-off location. It’s a last minute check list to make sure the courier has the right order. In fact, it’s a great feature for helping with delivery accuracy. Furthermore, it helps keep the orders of a double stack organized. For example, if the courier has two orders, and one is for Jack and the other is for Jill, the last minute pop-up will have the name of the order the courier should have onboard.

If there’s only one drop-off remaining, and the names don’t match, there is definitely a problem. It might seem like it couldn’t happen, but it does. The courier has a double stack and each drop-off is a leave at the door request. Therefore, there is no way for a wrong order to be noticed while the courier is there. That’s one reason why the last minute pop-up is so important. Not only does it remind the courier to remember all the items, but also to deliver the correct order, to the correct address.

    double stack

It’s the accuracy that makes a double stack a true bonus for the courier. Backtracking, and heavy dents to the ratings, are the consequences of rushed impatience. Additionally, forgotten items can create a drop in ratings and hurt the courier’s overall reputation. Overlooking the details in the special instructions, or forgetting beverages, has a definite impact on the courier’s ratings. And it can also influence the courier’s potential tips.

    The Double Stack Advantage

A double stack can be an advantage for the courier when accuracy is on point. Remembering a beverage one block from the drop-off location is a sinking feeling. Or perhaps the courier double checks the order to make sure all the items are there and discovers a missed drink. Or two missed drinks. One block from the drop-off is not going to help. The delivery has to move forward without the drinks. This is a result of not double checking the order details, while at the merchant.

It takes a few seconds to go over the items on the list. The courier can see what should be included in the order. Couriers do not open sealed packages. However, the details of the order, or the items list, will have the drinks listed. If there are drinks. At some places, the courier can fill the drinks. In other places, it must be done by the merchant. The point is the courier can check the order for drinks. Some delivery apps have reminders about the drinks. Some delivery apps do not have reminders.

The courier can make sure every drink is included. However, there is an exception to this process. Some merchants include the drinks in the meal packaging. In other words, the drinks are placed in a special drink holder inside the sealed bag. There are not many merchants that do things this particular way. But they do exist. In those deliveries the courier can rely on the merchant staff to confirm the drink’s presence in the delivery bag. It’s a good system for delivery convenience and accuracy. Stay safe out there.
