The best traffic safety for driveways and yards
It’s at the end of every drop-off. Most of the time there is nothing unique about it. But sometimes it’s the most daunting event of the day. Other times it starts out fine. Then about half way up, it becomes a nightmare of unpredictability. Maybe there are some potholes. Maybe there is one large pothole that really should be considered a sinkhole. Furthermore, there is still a drop-off to complete.
The description above might sound like an isolated and rural drop-off location. And sometimes it is. However, it is more common for this to be a driveway. That may sound strange. Nevertheless, the experienced courier knows this truth in a personal way. In fact, the more deliveries a courier runs, the more likely a driveway dilemma can be. Not only are driveways unpredictable but also they can be hard to find. It isn’t unusual for a driveway to be the most challenging part of a drop-off.
With this in mind, the safety of following a driveway is something to consider on every delivery. One of the most common warning signs of a difficult driveway is the grade. That is the angle of ascent, or how steep, it appears to be. The steeper the climb, the more alert the courier should be. Especially if the top of the driveway isn’t visible. Bringing a vehicle that weighs over a ton, to a point of no return, is no way to complete a delivery.
Traffic Safety for Driveways
The point of no return is also possible in the grass. In some deliveries, the driveway is not much more than grass, with tracks worn in. Depending on the grade, this can be a show stopper as well. It’s very easy to get the vehicle, surface stuck on wet grass. This is where observation is helpful. For example, taking a minute to examine the circumstances. After finding the correct address, taking a moment to examine the scene, is a courier best practice.

Furthermore, with a quick check, it’s possible to determine if parking on the road is the better option. It isn’t even a contest in some cases. It’s important for the courier to remember that what goes up, must come down. Therefore, a return trip to the road will be necessary, after the drop-off. If there is no room at the top of a driveway for the courier to turn around, then backing down the steep incline, is the only option.
This leads to a potentially unsafe exit. And whenever possible, avoiding a potential problem, is a quicker way to get the delivery completion. In other words, park at the curb. Turn on the vehicle safety flashers and leave the ride at the bottom of the driveway. If it takes an additional minute and a half to trek up the driveway, and helps with traffic safety, it’s worth it.
Driveways and Yards and Parking Lots Too
There is no way to predict where the courier may have to stow the ride while the delivery is finished. Some deliveries in high traffic tourist areas, are a parking nightmare. As well as being places where traffic safety is important. Not that there isn’t parking, because there are usually ample parking places. However, they are only available after paying a parking fee. This means the courier must either invest in the delivery, or become creative in temporarily stowing the ride.

If the courier decides to be creative in finding parking, it’s important to get it right the first time. Park in the wrong places within a tourist area and parking fines, or worse, are possible. In fact, it doesn’t have to be a tourist area. Even though a courier might only need a parking space for a few minutes, the rules still apply. Even a delivery sign on the vehicle will not excuse the courier from parking fines. The same goes for speeding. Stay safe out there.
