The best highway traffic hacks for gig drivers
Every delivery shift is different. Sometimes the weather is great and the delivery shift is smooth and routine. Other times, anything that can go wrong, does. Furthermore, there is the constant condition of the road. Even when there is little, or no traffic, it’s about the road conditions. Especially in bad weather. Nothing can slow a delivery like a bad weather episode.
With this in mind, it’s natural to look for a workaround to the delay. However, there are some situations that don’t have a workaround. For example, the bad weather scenario. A powerful thunderstorm on an already rainy day is bad weather all around. The bad weather slow down, will continue no matter which shortcut the courier takes. Furthermore, that brings us to one of the first highway traffic hacks. It’s a simple one but very hard to do. Slow down.
It’s easy to miss, if moving too fast. Slow down. That one action saves more time than it costs. Unless there’s no other choice, a detour in bad weather, could turn into a long overdue delivery. Even a traffic delay because of bad weather is fixable with communication. Taking the stress out of a drop-off means high speed maneuvers in the rain are a thing of the past. Slowing down has its advantages.
The best highway traffic hacks
Highway traffic hacks are not about super speed. Nor are they about hacking into anything computer related. Actual traffic hacks enhance the driving experience. For example, the full tank rule. A full tank of gas of fully charged battery is an advantage for a courier. It means there will likely be no need to stop for refueling before the end of the shift. Unscheduled stops take time. Always more time than you think. A full tank of gas at the start of the delivery shift, is a time hack that keeps on giving.

Red lights. We want more red lights. At this point I’ve either lost my mind, or there’s something about red lights. It’s true they slow things down. That’s the red light’s job. Furthermore, getting mad at the red light doesn’t change anything. Especially the red light. However, a red light is useful in high traffic situations. In fact, getting in line at a red light, is a very safe way to make a turn through heavy traffic.
This is useful for left turns through several lanes of opposing traffic. When there’s no red light that is a dangerous scenario. Avoiding that little traffic scenario, is as easy as the closest red light. The volume of traffic in shopping districts and city centers makes the preceding strategy very helpful. And one of the most practical highway traffic hacks.

Bumper buddies. Ouch! Are those lights on the bumper buddy behind you, a little bright? It’s possible there’s a reason why. It’s a condition couriers deal with often. There are times when a slow speed is necessary. For instance, in a neighborhood while searching for a particular address. Similarly, when the courier is about to be at the address, it’s time for more caution again. There’s parking in the road or aligning to an unknown driveway. And at this point, that driver in the car behind us is about to go nuclear.

There’s something about those tailgaters. And patience isn’t the first thing that comes to mind. However, there is a way to minimize this encounter. Aim for the next road, or driveway. In other words, bypass the actual drop-off, in order to turn around and re-approach safely. It’s a road etiquette strategy. Furthermore it allows for a quick view of the drop-off location in real time. This helps on the re-approach.
Road etiquette is important in highway traffic hacks. In many ways it is a noteworthy traffic hack as well. It’s a good thing to keep in mind when navigating the roads. It’s a comprehensive approach to road safety. And on that note, stay safe out there.
