Real time tracking and better delivery accuracy
Ever get that feeling someone’s watching you? Of course, these days there are cameras everywhere. It’s almost impossible to step out the front door without being on camera. somewhere. However, there’s a difference between being on camera, and being under observation. Being on camera happens randomly. And is usually in passing. But being observed is a different story. Being observed happens in real time.
With this in mind, couriers know something about being under observation in real time. Delivery apps and navigation systems improve everyday. Between updates, and advancements in the technology, tracking a delivery has become easier, and more accurate than ever. Furthermore, the GPS systems couriers use are state of the art. Not only is it possible to see real time traffic patterns, but also map details are highly accurate.
It’s all very sophisticated compared to the old days of delivery. In fact, tracking the courier began in delivery apps long before any established merchant began doing it. The concept allows real time tracking of the courier. It’s real time location sharing, the moment the courier accepts the offer. That’s one reason it’s called a live delivery. It means everything is happening in real time. Including the tracking of the courier’s current location. Furthermore, it’s extremely accurate.
Real Time Tracking
From the moment the courier accepts a delivery offer from the queue, the tracker kicks on. Therefore, the at home customer has a front row seat to the courier’s location in real time. Couriers are on the delivery long before the arrival at the pick up location. Likewise they are on the radar (or the real time tracker for short) long before the pickup. Additionally, the courier remains visible in the tracker while at the pickup location.

However, there’s no need to freshen up, or straighten the hair. The only thing visible, is the courier’s location. Furthermore, that is a necessary function of the app. Real time adjustments need real world data. The app makes adjustments to the expected arrival time based on the feedback from the courier. And from observing the courier’s precise location. In fact, it’s fascinating to see how accurate the system is at times.
For example, the courier may pull into a large apartment complex. And the buildings may have no building numbers. This is common with older apartment complexes. In this situation the courier must look for clues. Most apartment complexes have numbers on, or close to, the front door. These help determine which building it is, and what group of apartments are in the building. However, before the courier can even step foot out of the vehicle there is a text from the customer.
Better Delivery Accuracy
There is a message from the customer. Additionally, it happens just after the first building in the hard to read apartment complex. Furthermore, the courier now knows the observation is underway. Because the message reads,
“Don’t stop at that building, go down to the next one”. Then, one building further down, comes the message,
“You just passed me, you went down one building too far, you need to turn around”. If it’s near midnight, and dark, the courier is without any ability to track the tracker. The courier has a pin on a map. The pin may, or may not be, accurately placed. The courier isn’t tracking the customer at the drop-off location. The courier locks in on the location itself.

The influence of tracking, on delivery quality, matters. In the example above, the courier might spend ten minutes searching for the right apartment. However, with the customer providing instructions the courier can complete the delivery much quicker. With minimal use of resources. This has a direct impact on the courier’s ratings. And it saves time. Furthermore real time tracking gives a drop-off location time to alert the courier if there is a GPS glitch to keep in mind.
Timing In Real Time
The real-time tracker does more than keep the courier in the picture. It provides the at home customer a window into the courier’s actual location. Couriers are used to the additional eye in the sky. Although the delivery apps started the trend of tracking the courier, it is a normal practice in this day and age. It is also one of the top reasons to use the delivery app’s built in features to provide feedback.
Especially upon arrival to the pickup location. This applies to the hot fresh food delivery. This particular delivery, relies on the merchant having the order ready when the courier arrives for the pickup. If the order is not ready and the courier has to wait it’s important to mark the delivery, ‘not ready’. There is a custom feature in the popular delivery apps that allows the courier to mark the delivery as ‘not ready’.
This feedback is important. It is useful information for the merchant. And it’s useful information for the delivery app. Additionally, it can help improve things for the next courier. The detailed data allows the merchant to focus on improving times as well. Which means having orders ready as soon as the courier arrives. Or better yet, one minute before the courier arrives. However, not everyone can track the courier. The merchant only has basic information about the courier. And this doesn’t include the courier’s GPS location. Much more on this topic in upcoming articles. Stay safe out there.
