On time delivery and new route development

On time delivery and developing new routes

A delivery route is an essential part of a delivery. A fixed and reliable route benefits the courier. The timing of the route, as well as the predictability of the route, is a valuable asset for the courier. This intel is useful, when an on time delivery, is in the works.

With this in mind, a new route is a change up in more ways than one. Especially when it bypasses an interrupted or unavailable usual route. Furthermore, it can change an entire delivery strategy. Particularly if the courier uses the route on a regular basis. In fact, it is possible to say some deliveries are only lucrative, because of a certain route.

    On time delivery

Similarly, if the route changes, so does the delivery timing. Using an alternative route changes a known delivery in subtle ways. Not the least of which is a possible ding in the ratings. The on time delivery ratings, to be exact.

This topic, affects both the crew courier, and the solo courier. Furthermore, the solo courier is likely to be more impacted by an unavailable route. This is due to the static delivery zone. The crew courier, has the same delivery zone all the time. The routes are familiar. And the recurring customer, is the recurring delivery.

Furthermore, a static delivery zone can be an advantage. Even when a new route must be used. For example, awareness ahead of time, that a route has been compromised. Or unavailable. In this way, the courier begins to develop a new benchmark. It works for any particular recurring delivery.

This is the same strategy the solo courier uses. However, the strategy must be on the fly. In other words, the solo courier has less time to adapt. Therefore, it must be quick. And allow for quickly switching to a new route.

    New route

Switching to a new route doesn’t always improve the odds of an on time delivery. However, it offers the courier valuable intel. Intel that benefits the courier. As well as the drop-off customer. Which is useful for future detours and delays. A reasonable benchmark.

This is especially useful when facing road hazards. Such as traffic delays, or road construction. Or worse, a combination of both. Being ready to switch to a new route, is a courier best practice. Quickly adapting to a new set of circumstances, is a benefit for the courier. It is especially important for on time delivery. And new route development. Stay safe out there.
