Missing the forest for the trees and one pin obsession
Keep your eyes on the prize. Also, stay focused. The drop-off is just ahead. Somewhere. The search is on and the pin is just around the next turn. It is clearly visible on the GPS. In fact, choosing this route was pin related. The pin is the goal. It’s the same as X marks the spot. A short distance more and this drop-off will be in the books. And the sooner the better. There’s a long night ahead and a good start will set a positive tone.
With this in mind, it is a welcome relief when the map shows the pin and the courier in the same place. There’s only one problem. There is only an empty parking lot all around. In fact, it is so isolated a separate map might be needed to find the way back. This is not cool. Time to pause while a careful review takes place. Is it possible to miss the forest for the trees? Maybe that is what happened. Because the pin on the GPS, led the way to nowhere.
Finding nowhere was easy. Time to find the actual drop-off location. Chances are it’s close by. However, missing it a moment ago didn’t help anything. Therefore, the plan has to be a careful review of all the details. Let’s start back at the beginning. Not all the way back, just to the part about the physical address. A quick double check just to make sure.
Missing the Forest for the Trees
A quick double check just to make sure. Meanwhile, the clock ticks away. And this pin obsession is now a delay to a timely delivery. However, we are right where the drop-off should be. According to the pin. There it is again. The pin obsession. This pin has caused quite the delay already. So what gives? If the drop-off location isn’t where the pin sits, then where is it? This is like that old saying: Can’t see the forest for the trees.

Back at the beginning. Once more a quick review of the delivery details. A quick check in the special instructions. Just in case. Sometimes the pin sits in a general location. For example, an apartment complex. The delivery customer is in the complex. Somewhere. The pin sits at the end of the complex. However, building R is the address in the app. And building R is back the other way. Back toward the beginning of the complex.
The careful review of the details helped. However, it would help more if the review took place while back at the pickup location. Not seeing the forest for the trees made the drop-off more complicated. Pins are not always reliable. The delivery customer may set the pin. Or the GPS map sets the pin on its best guess. Either way, having all the clues makes all the difference.
One Pin Obsession
Building R is in the address details. Occasionally the apartment number is apart from the physical address in the app. Furthermore, it takes thorough investigation of the address details. The pin is handy. It is also convenient. But it can also lead the courier on a wild goose chase. That is the essence of the pin obsession. There can be so much happening at any given moment in a delivery. The courier is tracking a lot of information. And quickly.
Therefore, homing in on the pin location, is a go to option for speedy route selection. Sometimes a courier must quickly decide on the general direction for travel. Driving to the pin is a quick way to mentally select routes. Furthermore, it is like a beacon when following along in the delivery app. However, it isn’t always reliable. The physical address is a reliable bit of information. The house number, or building number, is an old school way to double check the pin.
And it’s a good idea to double check. It saves time and resources. Furthermore it cuts down on the anxiety the at home delivery customer feels while watching the courier on the tracking map. Especially while the courier backtracks, and does a little extra hunting for the actual drop-off location. Stay safe out there.
