One of the top concerns of the courier is the expense of doing the work. It is a dynamic condition of relying on the road to make a living. The work requires investment. Furthermore, it’s an ongoing investment. Recently a lot is going on at the gas pumps. Or perhaps going up, is a better description. However, it’s not breaking news for couriers. Rising and falling gas prices are a part of the job. So are other maintenance items. For example, motor oil. And have you seen the price of tires lately?
With this in mind, some relief could help balance those expenses. Some of the fastest (and easiest) ways of mitigating expenses are fuel rewards. Or fuel perks, as they are sometimes called. Furthermore, there are more than a few ways to get them. Several of the top delivery apps now offer fuel rewards or incentives. Similar to cash back at the pump, these incentives are meant to help couriers with rising fuel prices.
Depending on the app the fuel rewards vary. Some go to a card associated with the driver’s account in the app. Some are redeemable in other ways. However, they don’t help much if the courier doesn’t take advantage of them. This is also true of independent fuel rewards programs. For example, the Upside app. The app is in the Google play store and is easy to join and setup. Additionally the savings begin right away. Or as soon as the courier arrives at the gas pump.
The Best Gas Relief Strategies
Everyone can use some gas relief at one time or another. And when it comes in the form of cash back through fuel rewards that’s even better. Especially when the prices take a dramatic turn upward. Furthermore, it’s not always about saving cash at the gas pump. Similarly, fuel rewards need to build up so there is a meaningful impact at the fuel pump. This is where proactive strategies and road smarts really become helpful.
Some vehicles have a built in anti-idling device. And some older better models do not. Likewise, some delivery pickups require waiting in line, in a drive-thru. This long wait is notorious for absorbing fuel. In fact, it is almost unnoticeable. No one likes to wait. Couriers often find themselves waiting. Therefore, a need for distraction during the long and boring wait seems reasonable. Catch a video. Or catch up on some emails or texts. The only thing a courier must do while waiting is be ready when the drive-thru line moves.
This is the right moment to key off the ride. The long wait that goes by quickly, means lots of fuel down the drain, and no miles traveled for the expense. It’s easy to overlook. The hustle is on and the rush is in full tilt mode. The last thing a courier wants to do is slow down, and turn everything off. Far easier to scroll a news feed or check messages while in the temporary position of waiting in line. This is when time literally flies. In the blink of an eye, twenty minutes went by. So did half a gallon of gas.
Fuel Rewards
When gas prices are low it doesn’t seem as important to conserve fuel. Furthermore, the twenty five or thirty cent fuel rewards, don’t carry a lot of weight. Gas relief weighs more when the price of gas doubles. Unless one has a Cybertruck. Then this article might be like watching a quaint old movie on a movie projector screen. However, for those still driving with a combustion engine, the fuel rewards become especially attractive the higher the fuel prices go.
A Google search can go a long way toward finding an app or program designed to help with gas relief. The fuel rewards come along after the courier fronts the expense of the fuel. This also means the courier needs time to develop the use of the app or system. As mentioned earlier, the perks may begin right away, but the impact of the cash back reward is greater over time. When the fuel rewards combine with reducing the amount of fuel burned frivolously, the savings (and earnings) begin to add up.
Furthermore, this comes back to driving habits as well. Driving twice as fast as the posted speed limit is a great way to burn through fuel unnecessarily. Similarly, racing to the next red light (mere feet away from the last one) is another way to waste fuel. And at the current prices, only an oil baron can afford to waste gas.
