Extra spatial awareness for improved zone timing
Driving to a faraway destination is fun. Not a faraway delivery, although those are fun too. But driving to a destination that is so far away it takes more than a couple of hours to get there. In fact, it might feel like it takes much longer. Upon arrival, an enjoyable visit, and then the return trip. However, something strange happens on the return journey. Something inexplicable but noticeable.
Not a UFO encounter, although that is in the realm of possibilities. Actually, it’s the time it takes for the return journey. Somehow that return trip feels like it happens in half the time. In fact, the time it takes to return could be slightly shorter based on route selection, and whether or not it’s a straight line of travel in each direction. Yet it’s not significant enough to impact the clock heavily. It’s possible the sense of time passing quicker is due to some extra spatial awareness.

Extra spatial awareness is particularly helpful when memorizing a zone. In fact, it can be said that one facilitates the other. Using spatial awareness a courier commits more of an area to memory. Furthermore, it is much quicker accessing memory than a GPS map. Additionally, adjustments in the route can be done by thought. And at the same time as navigating the route.
Extra Spatial Awareness
It’s in the memorization of a route, or a zone of delivery. The more a courier drives an area the more familiar the area becomes. Before long there is an improvement in the timing of the zone. For example, the courier becomes accustomed to visualizing the zone, and areas inside the zone. This almost becomes second nature, if done often enough.
Before long, it’s possible to trim a few minutes off that route, because it’s more familiar. The same goes for repeat visits to the same neighborhoods. With extra spatial awareness, alternative routes stand out. For example, the alternate route into the subdivision. A GPS map may lead the courier into the neighborhood one certain way. However, there is an open route on the other side of the neighborhood. Memorizing this detail about a particular place, creates a future opportunity.

An alternate route anywhere is a bonus. Furthermore, it can help increase the chance for a successful delivery completion. Especially on future deliveries. Like the return journey on a long trip, time feels like it moves faster. A familiar location is more quickly visualized than searched for, through an app. A little extra spatial awareness goes a long way.
Improved Zone Timing
Saving time is equally proportional to saving money. Extra spatial awareness can definitely help save time. Visualizing routes, and planning ahead of time, is one way to save money. Memorized areas are faster to get to. Time saved is not having to search for a route. Or having to quickly scan an area for directions. This benefits the courier. Furthermore, it only takes a small amount of effort.
Knowing a zone improves the courier’s timing. Less time searching means faster drop-offs. Faster drop-offs mean happy customers. And happy customers can lead to improved earnings. Definitely a win win. All it takes is a little extra attention. And some spatial awareness. The returns are more than worth it. Stay safe out there.
