Cargo delay of the better kind – Tales of the courier

Stick in the mud. Stuck like glue. 1courier turns back to the testing program. It looked like there was still going to be some time before he got the cargo. He grimaces and tries to focus on the reflex task.

The wait was unexpected. Indeed, he feels surprised by the delay. This particular merchant was always reliable. He levels all his concentration on the reflex task. He is close. Oh so close…Then bust! Every damn time! In almost exactly the same place.

Cargo Delay

He looks up from the task to see if anything has changed. However, the pickup location was still working the cargo. There was still some time before it would be ready. Therefore he goes back to the task. He was getting credits for it, so why not keep at it.

The other options aren’t better. He could drop the delivery offer. Especially considering he had already been waiting for an extended period of time. Additionally, he could leave and come back later. Neither of these options appeal to him, so he opts for the third option. He will wait.

Likewise, he will study while he waits. He grins. It will be time well used. He has just passed a personal best on the reflex task. Furthermore he is only a few hundred points away from being rewarded by dispatch. It’s this that has him hooked on the reflex task. He jumps as the task defeats him. Yet again!

The Better Kind

1courier resets the task. Then he checks the situation. Although it is closer to ready, the cargo is still delayed. Now he must make contact with the drop-off location once again. His first contact had been upon discovering there would be a delay.

Once he has made contact with the drop off location he is free to resume the reflex task. With any luck he would beat it this time. However, he doesn’t have much time to find out. Within minutes he is signaled that the cargo is ready. He is also ready.

As he waits for the final wrapping of the cargo, he notices he is no longer waiting alone. He has been joined by another who is also waiting. However, they are not waiting for cargo. 1courier discovers this as he finally picks up his own cargo.

The stranger looks to 1courier and offers a grin of his own. Then greets 1courier with an offer he can’t refuse…
