Howdy driver! Hope you got some good asphalt time today too! Sunset earlier every day, and nighttime is large and in charge. We covered some basic light strategy earlier this year, and that info can be found here. What’s under my hood today is the whole new normal of drop off chaos. That’s half the job driver, getting the cargo to the client. Once, that was a matter of pride in the work, and sometimes a pain. Post pandemic and it’s, Yikes! You want me to put it where?
Once upon a time, pizza delivery companies promised to deliver in thirty minutes or less. Thirty one minutes and the pie was free. The unspoken appeal, was the idea of hot and fresh. In fact, there was a time when the idea of leaving hot and fresh food anywhere unattended was professionally unacceptable.
Pandemic ways
The pandemic changed many things, and as the concept of ,’no contact ‘ deliveries took root, an alarming thing began happening. It became professionally acceptable to put hot fresh food (gulp) down. On the ground. Or the floor. Of the porch. It became the default setting of most delivery apps – No Contact Delivery- I’ve seen thousands of them. Take a pic, send it in a text, ring the bell, back away quickly. On to the next.
That’s one of the perks of the food delivery side of driver work. Showing up at the door, and they’re always happy you’re there! Who wouldn’t be? There’s hot fresh food at hand! There’s greetings, warm regards, pleasant smells, and a certainty that the cargo arrived, hot and fresh. Take heart driver, things are slowly working their way back to contact and smiles. Here’s a little tip to help you and your customers.
Make contact on those no contact runs. I know, I’m a silent runner too, but some of those apps still have that default setting of no contact. Auto orders still roll through on default, your friend at the end might not know you’re under orders to drop and run. And they didn’t get your picture of that helpless pizza laying on the floor, facing certain hypothermia.
Yep that’s an actual no contact delivery, saved, by some simple contact ahead of time. I love all that happiness and warmth when things are hot and fresh! Such a nice couple too! And would you look at that, you’re customer approval rating just went up! Chin up driver, small victories matter too. Comments welcome. Zoom zoom driver.
