Winter weather delivery and easy ways to stay safe
The winter season is upon us, and it’s cold outside. All couriers without heat bags will have to pony up, or risk chilling a blazing hot pizza. Don’t forget to ask your local pizza joint, about extra bags for drivers. The Doordash delivery app is helpful in this regard. As we hurdle head long toward a series of holidays, the delivery scene is heating up. This is a positive opportunity for the courier, solo or crew.
However, opportunity with no risk, is usually a sting-operation of some sort. Furthermore, it’s likely not a good delivery. With this in mind, there are also a lot of articles about inclement winter weather. Additionally, there are more than a few about the winter weather delivery. It’s that particular delivery, that brings about complications for the courier.
Although it’s true that more people than couriers are affected by the winter weather, couriers and other drivers for hire, are trying to work in it. Therefore, safety is going to be a top priority. Also there is only so much winter weather delivery a courier can do, before the situation worsens, or becomes impossible. For example, a blizzard, or snow storm.
Winter Weather Delivery
However, the demand is there. In some places winter weather is a normal occurrence. In other places, it freaks people out, because it isn’t normal at all. Yet the demand for a delivery seems to increase, the moment the chances for inclement weather do.
This is actually anticipated by most couriers. An increase in delivery demand is synonymous with a potential increase in earnings. Most couriers embrace winter weather delivery as an earnings opportunity. It usually is a more intense delivery situation. Therefore it’s important to know when to push the envelope, and when to pack it up, and get back to the house.
Another thing a courier will notice is that the worse the weather gets, the more worried and anxious the drop-off location will be. This is usually because the at home customer is worried the delivery will be canceled. And sometimes it is. Especially when there’s no other option. For example, the road is too icy, or slick, and the courier can go no further.
Easy Ways to Stay Safe
The first one of the easy ways to stay safe is, if it don’t feel right, don’t do it. It’s pretty basic, but it’s often overlooked. It’s the equivalent of that small inner voice, that suggests a pause for better understanding. That small inner voice that is connected to the gut. A courier’s gut instinct is seriously a real thing. But that small inner voice is easy to ignore. So don’t.
Another way to stay safe is to stay informed. Know the weather. Know when the roads will be at risk. This is easily a part of the courier’s job. Similar to scouting the roads for traffic jams, knowing what’s ahead with regard to the weather, is one of the best tools in the courier’s toolbox. Furthermore, it is a strategic way to maintain the flow of earnings.
And lastly, for this article, if the courier doesn’t like the way the weather is looking, stay at home. That is also an overlooked, safety measure, that benefits the courier. Greatly, in some cases. It is a given that making bread is necessary, but it shouldn’t come with unnecessary risk. Take a snow day, and stay at home. Otherwise, stay safe out there.
