Which is Better, Crew or Solo? The In-House Delivery Dilemma

This article is opinion based on interactions with trusted merchants. The dilemma is the change that merchants are experiencing, with delivery apps. Merchants with in-house delivery crews are using 3rd party delivery apps. This has become a boon to merchants with large rushes. Because it adds available couriers, to the queue.
In-house delivery crews have advantages that can’t be found as a solo driver. For example, having access to a static delivery area. As well as the company provided delivery vehicles. For example, check out the ones in the picture.
I wonder if they have the built in thermal storage boxes? Some delivery crew are about to get a nice upgrade in their rides! Their customers will also get a nice upgrade in service times, and quality.
The In-house delivery
Merchants are still using in-house delivery crews. An in-house delivery crew makes the merchant’s deliveries according to demand. Additionally it gives the merchant a set area of coverage. There is also brand recognition with car toppers and uniforms. Also there is specific customer service training. All of these are advantages to having a delivery crew dedicated to a particular brand.
There are also disadvantages. Furthermore, some of those are the catalyst, for phasing out in-house delivery crews. Profitability and expense are the top reasons a merchant could decide to thin the ranks.
Dilemma
Indeed, insurance costs are on the rise. This is an expense merchants incur when running an in-house delivery crew. Insurance is expensive. And it creates an underlying reason for increased prices. So is carrying a large employee payroll. Converting to a third party delivery app, lessens costs. The merchant is able to complete the same amount of delivery sales. With virtually no employee expense.
Labor costs go down. Insurance costs go down, yet business steadies. In fact, an increase in business is an unexpected, side effect. This differs from the popular belief that third party delivery app fees are excessive. When compared to the actual operating expenses of in-house delivery crews, the math speaks for itself.
Which is Better, Crew or Solo?
The in-house delivery dilemma continues to unfold. Additionally, more drivers will become independent. Merchants will switch to more efficient delivery models. Then begin phasing out in-house crews. There are several benefits to solo driving. Couriers will notice an increase in deliveries from a variety of merchants. Delivery apps make it possible to run almost non-stop. Consequently the schedule is more flexible.
The powerhouse pizza delivery merchants, are using third party apps. The gourmet and higher end pizza merchants are using third party apps. Now it’s possible to deliver every kind of pizza! Stay safe out there!
