Vehicle Expenses and the Truth About Maintenance
Couriers have a unique job. There are pros and cons in the delivery profession. It could be a package courier working for a large scale company. Or a solo driver, trying to make ends meet. Whatever the case, there are ups and downs. Sometimes on every delivery.
With this in mind, one of the top concerns for a courier, are vehicle expenses. This applies to couriers supplying their own equipment for the completion of deliveries. There is always one thing a courier can count on, the miles add up quick. In fact the wear and tear on a vehicle adds up quick. The wear and tear is cumulative. In some areas, such as tires, the wear and tear happens rapidly.
Vehicle Expenses
In fact, couriers go through tires twice as fast, as in a normal use scenario. This is the same with brakes. It is also common to need the oil changed twice as often. This is due to the many miles traveled between the routine oil changes. Furthermore, other fluids need regular observation. Transmission fluid, brake fluid, and power steering fluid, to name a few. Additionally, depending on the vehicle, there are other fluids that need regular maintenance.
However, this rapid wear and tear scenario, isn’t all downhill. It is possible to use, preventative maintenance, to ease some of this wear and tear. And, as a result, cut down on vehicle expenses.
For example, rotating the tires. Rotating the tires can drastically extend their overall lifespan from the effects of excessive use. Likewise, keeping fluids at full levels. Coolant levels, brake fluid, power steering fluid, and others, should be checked regularly. Especially the oil levels. Fluids that quickly run dry, or consistently run empty or low, could indicate more serious problems.
The Truth about Maintenance
Serious problems, or mechanical issues, are best caught early on. Before something breaks. Regular maintenance is key to this. Furthermore, it can help prevent excessive vehicle expenses. Knowing about potential problems ahead of time is a benefit for the courier. It means problems that might arise can be considered ahead of time. Before they become major breakdowns.
Similarly, vehicle expenses can be budgeted and planned. This puts the courier in a proactive position, as opposed to a reactive one. There is a lot of truth about maintenance and the positive effects it has on a vehicle. More in-depth articles on this topic, are forthcoming. Until then, stay safe out there.
