Unstacking a better drop-off plan.
Driving in the rush is one of the busiest times for the courier. It is also a preferred time to be active for increased earnings. There is also more than one daily rush. This is good news because it means more opportunities for the courier to prosper.
Searching the word rush on this site will yield many results. The rush is bread and butter for the courier. Not only is it the time of the best opportunities, but also a greater supply of opportunities. This also means an increase in merchant offers is happening. Everything becomes more intense in the rush.
With this in mind, many articles on this site are about mindfulness and planning. Especially during the pick-up. Cargo pick-up, is an important part of deliveries. Careful observation of the cargo, and making sure to include all of the cargo, is a given.
Unstacking
This is especially true when accepting stacked offers. There are more details, with more than one delivery, in one trip. Not only does this mean there is an order or sequence for the pick-up, but also for the drop-off. Or, completions. It makes sense that the first delivery picked up, should be the first dropped off. Until it doesn’t.
There is more than one reason why the sequence of dropping off stacks, should be adjusted. For example, the courier picks up delivery (A) before delivery (B). Logic says delivery (A) should be dropped off first. However, the courier will drive past delivery (B) along the way to delivery (A). What to do? Hmm. 🤔
The crew courier is expected to drop off delivery (B) first. It just makes better sense. It’s along the way. Furthermore, it keeps the courier from having to backtrack. This saves valuable time. And resources.
The solo courier using an app, can do something similar, if the app permits the technique. Some delivery apps fix or lock-in the order of drop-off. A set order. This means the courier will bypass delivery (B) to make delivery (A) and then backtrack to complete delivery (B). This is frowned upon, in a merchant delivery crew. It’s wasteful.
Better Drop-Off
The Doordash app, gives the courier the ability to toggle between active deliveries. What this means for the courier, is being able to complete deliveries strategically. This is beneficial to couriers and the drop-off customer.
If the courier is limited in the order, or sequence of drop-offs, delays are more likely. Furthermore, some cargo delays, could be completely avoidable. Therefore here are some things to keep in mind. Not all delivery apps allow the order of the drop-off to be changed. It’s locked in.
With this in mind the courier relies on the app. The app keeps all recipients in the stack, up to date on the courier’s progress. In real time. The courier can help too. With additional communication. Additionally the courier can look for ways to improve delivery times in every stack. Even when it has the difficulty of a fixed sequence drop-off. Stay safe out there.
