Trick or treat times and better safety on the road
Happy Halloween! At long last it has arrived! One of the most exciting days of the year. It’s an official, unofficially official holiday. Furthermore, it can be an extremely busy holiday in more ways than one. For couriers and delivery drivers, it’s one of the busiest days of the year. Not only busy, but also an exercise in diligence. However, it’s not because of ghostly antics, or unexplained spooky noises.
Although there may be scares and things that cause a fright, it’s about road safety, on Halloween night. In fact, this is one of the top concerns for the courier on that special evening. This is when most neighborhoods will have their trick or treat times. For the experienced courier, this means an increase in attentiveness, and focus, on the road conditions. For the new courier it means even more.
Slowing down is one of the first priorities when running deliveries on Halloween night. In fact, it’s so simple, it’s effective. Particularly in neighborhoods. Trick or treat times may vary, but not by much. It is around dusk, or very early evening. Some neighborhoods have trick or treat champions, who start early, and try to cover an entire neighborhood for candy treats. Twice!
Trick or Treat Times and Better Safety
Most drivers understand the need for careful driving, on a night like Halloween. Not only is it a social holiday but also most everyone likes to participate in some way. There are parties and gatherings, and groups of people walking along the road. Furthermore, much of this is happening after sunset. Additionally, many of these same folks are either ordering, or thinking about ordering, a delivery.
With this in mind, there are also all the parties planned ahead of time. Many of these have a delivery in mind. In fact, it could be that the upcoming delivery will be the centerpiece of the evening. For example, a large pizza order, for a really large party. This means navigating dark neighborhood streets, while they are being used by crowds of people. This is when the courier may begin to feel stress. Or perhaps the sinking notion that a typical ten minute delivery will now take thirty minutes. And that’s just to get in and out of the neighborhood.
This is when the courier needs patience, diligence, and a deliberate pace. This will help create better safety on the road. Especially, during the favored trick or treat times. Similarly, things like adequate lights, and clean windshield glass, go a long way towards improving safety awareness. And most importantly, slow down. One of the top ways a courier promotes better safety on the road, is to slow the pumpkin down.
Better Safety on the Road
The Halloween delivery is about more than just cashing in on a fun and informal holiday. It’s about providing a timely service, even with large crowds. Furthermore, a timely service that is focused on road safety, and pedestrian awareness. The positive news is after all the little ones are done with the treat gathering, the grown up celebrations are just getting started.
Watch for that late rush. It happens, and it can be extreme. It is the one that is heavy on the hot fresh food cargo, and the alcohol cargo. Don’t forget to keep those lights shining bright, and have a safe Halloween night out there.
