Traffic and pickups – How to get the best courier support
It is bound to happen from time to time. There are days when every delivery is a successful delivery. Then, there are days when… nope. It could be the extreme traffic delay, it could be an issue with a particular merchant, or all of the above. Whatever the issue, or delay, it becomes necessary to get a little help. This is not the moment a courier anticipates.
With this in mind, it is important to find the best course, or solution, to the dilemma. This is not always easy. Furthermore, it may require an extended amount of time. Time that could be spent focusing on new delivery opportunities. Therefore the quickest solution could be the better one.
When problems arise on a delivery, there are only a few basic areas, where they can happen. This applies to the courier using a delivery app. (Crew couriers have the home base for additional support.) The purpose of the courier is to get something from point A to point B. As quickly as possible. There are only a few areas where problems can occur. On the way to the pickup, at the pickup, on the way to the drop-off, and at the drop-off.
Traffic and Pickups
Delivery apps are fairly thorough in anticipating problems. However, no system is full proof. Sometimes unforeseen issues can happen. When a problem occurs, it is important to look at the four basic areas of delivery listed above. For example, if the problem happens on the way to the pickup. Such as a major traffic delay.
In this scenario, the courier can use the app to signal a delay in arrival time. Additionally, if the traffic issue is an extended one, most delivery apps have a process for the courier to cancel the intent to pickup the offer. In fact, some delivery apps monitor the courier’s progress. If there is a delay in the movement to the pickup, the app will check-in with the courier.
Similarly, a delay at the merchant location, can become an extended delay. There can be a number of reasons why, however the courier is most concerned with when. There are ways to mitigate the delay, such as contacting the delivery customer and alerting them of the delay. Additionally, there is an area in delivery apps where the courier marks the pickup as delayed. Also why. For example, the order is not ready.
The Best Courier Support
Recent changes to some delivery apps, allow the courier to release the delivery offer if the wait time is excessive. This is an automated solution, after a predetermined amount of time has passed. The offer comes with no impact to courier ratings. The courier is then available for new offers from the delivery queue.
In some cases the merchant does not have a particular item. Or there is a shortage of something. In this scenario, the merchant staff will ask the courier for assistance. The courier has a direct line to the delivery customer. Through the app. Respectively. This means the courier can relay details and get customer decisions in a timely manner. Go ahead and lend a helping hand courier.
Delays on the way to the drop-off are most often between the courier and the drop-off location. Sometimes it is traffic. Other times it is unclear GPS directions or mapping issues. Direct communication with the customer is important in these examples. This includes problems at the drop-off location. With a few exceptions.
Additional Support
Safety is the top priority for every courier. Especially at a drop-off location. Delivery apps have safety features. They are easy to find, and encouraged, for any safety issue.
