The Worthwhile Wait and Special Instructions
Couriers are always on the move, from pickup to dropoff, the pace is always progressive. Additionally, each step that a courier completes, brings the next offer, one step closer.
A delivery app will have a step by step process for accepting and completing a delivery. In the same way, a merchant with an in-house delivery crew, will also follow a similar process.
With a delivery app, many of the details of the delivery, are streamlined into that step by step process. Not only the details, but also the timing of those steps.
The Worthwhile Wait
The timing of a delivery begins once the order is placed. This creates an estimated time for pickup. This means the merchant is estimating when the cargo will be ready for pickup.
There are several factors that a merchant uses to give an estimate, however, the estimated time is still an estimate. Not a certainty.
Waiting for cargo is part of the job. Under the best of circumstances, delays are sometimes unavoidable. If the courier has moved to the front for cargo, and the cargo is still being readied, there will be a wait and merchant staff will estimate a ready time for the courier.
It is up to the courier, whether the wait is worthwhile or not.
For example, the courier accepted this offer as part of a stack, and already has cargo waiting in the ride. If the cargo that is waiting in the ride, is time sensitive, the courier’s wait may not be worthwhile. Think ~ melting frozen deserts.
Special Instructions
Did you read the instructions? Obviously, the instructions are important. Not just the ones on delivering cargo, but also the special ones.
The special instructions guide the courier on the dropoff preferences. Meet at the door can be a special instruction, as well as, leave at the door. A dropoff location may have several doors, and the special instructions detail the correct door.
Keeping this in mind, the special instructions are a key element for the courier. Furthermore, they can come from the app, or the dropoff location. In some cases, cargo may not be discovered, unless the special instructions are met.
From the worthwhile wait, to special instructions, a delivery is all about the cargo. From point A to point B, in a timely manner, is all about the courier. Stay safe out there.
