The ups and downs of the zone change
Every courier has been there at one time or another. The deliveries are flowing smoothly. The traffic is light. Not only are the runs short but also lining up nicely as well.
It is more than a myth to have this type of setup. Furthermore, having a good balance of deliveries is what good zone selection is all about. Then the offer that changes everything, pops up, and changes everything.
This is one of those moments that split off in time. The courier has the chance to reject the offer, thereby preserving the time stream. However, the courier is tempted by the extreme generosity in the offer. The drop-off location is soundly in another zone, but the offer is a better than average opportunity.
Zone Change
Not only is it another zone, but also another zone near the end of the rush. The drawback to this is the time it will take the courier to reset. With this in mind, it becomes difficult to consider a zone change. Yet it’s even more difficult to turn away the good offer.
The courier should consider the possibility of continued shorter deliveries in the current zone. Will the zone change have a positive outcome in a new zone? Is the courier planning on more deliveries regardless of zone selection?
These are important questions. The courier will only have a few seconds to consider them. Nevertheless, they are important when considering changing zones. The courier should factor in the expense of changing zones and the inevitable lag when first in the new zone.
I prefer a zone change, before the end of a rush. It allows for the rush to continue in the new zone. When there is a rush there is a demand for the courier. The courier can use the rush to toggle the notice of the algorithm in the new zone. Stay safe out there.
