The Shade Tree Cool Down and 460 Air Conditioning
With summer fast approaching and the daytime temps rising, it’s safe to say, things are heating up out there! With the arrival of summertime, a different set of delivery circumstances comes into play, the heat being one of the bigger players.
As the daytime temps climb and the roads heat up, so do those parking lots and side roads. Anything that’s paved for wheels, is going to be giving off heat.
Add that to summertime sun, and the heat is on. When the temps get in the extremes, it’s good to have places to beat the heat. Not every courier has access to air conditioning of the cold kind.
One of the better places to catch a cool down is the shade tree. The time of day determines the depth of shade. This is a good strategy on those days when the outside temps are ninety plus.
The opportunities for a cool down are as numerous as there are trees casting their shadows. This is also a good spot to station and wait, in between offers.
It works well with 460 air conditioning. Not everyone has heard of the 460 air conditioning model/strategy. It’s free and works, but only while on the road, and it’s an old school technique.
Four windows down and sixty miles an hour, there it is, old school air conditioning. For coupe style vehicles the 260 air conditioning model works in the same way. There shouldn’t be a noticeable difference between the two.
Anecdote
This is the anecdote we would hear when complaining that the ride didn’t have air conditioning. Some older driver, would pipe up and give the anecdote, about how every vehicle had air conditioning.
When considered from that point of view, it’s a true statement. I prefer the windows down technique as much as is possible. It is up to the courier, and the type of vehicle matters, as well. Some older vehicles will use a little more gas and have a small reduction in power when the on board air conditioning is being used.
Newer vehicles are designed to be improved in those areas, and not every ride is aerodynamically efficient with all the windows down.
Between the shade trees and the 460 air, a quick cool down is very possible, during the hottest of delivery days!
