The self employed courier and odd money myths
Sometimes it’s about the perks. Other times it’s the flexible schedule advantages. Whatever the reason for choosing to use a delivery app the goal is usually the same for everyone. An increase in earnings. In fact, if the delivery app is a side hustle for the courier, the additional earnings could be bonus income. For the courier trying to make a full time go with a delivery app, it’s a matter of laying it all on the line.
Delivery apps are a great side hustle. Similarly they are a quick way to make a little extra income. Maybe it’s a grandpa or grandma trying to make ends meet at the end of the month. Likewise it could be a single parent working for a second income stream to keep the lights on. The income is additional. In fact, it may not even be substantial. In comparison to full time income, it is the smaller sum.
With this in mind, it is the additional income and its source, that creates the self employed courier. The particular level of income that triggers self employed status is fairly small. There is a certain level of income that triggers the burden to pay taxes on that same income. However, it took the courier working as self employed to make the extra income. Furthermore there are many resources for up to date information.
The Self Employed Courier
This article is not tax advice. It’s not even tax experience. Taxes are a pain. In the tail. Furthermore, the self employed courier must be sure the business at the end of the year is handled well. Preferably the same as a good delivery. Accurately, and on time. This does mean extra paperwork at the end of the year. However, that is a small price to pay for all the perks of the delivery life.

That is another of the odd money myths. The one about a delivery side hustle tripling the yearly taxes. It just can’t be true. If it were, the tips would be in the millions. Only SpaceX and NASA make that kind of dough for a delivery. The self employed courier has a lot to pay at the end of the year, sure. However, there is no withholding throughout the year. This is an important distinction.
The employed courier has money deducted from each paycheck, to cover the taxes. Furthermore it’s automatic and mostly a stress-free experience. Yes, things certainly changed when the taxes became a stress free experience. All kidding aside, the self employed courier can find an abundance of tax informational help. It is especially plentiful, at the end of the year, during tax season.
Odd Money Myths
All those taxes at the end of the year are on real income. The solo courier using a delivery app makes money. However, the big bucks are still reserved for rock stars. And rocket scientists. Many of them self employed. The money is better though. Rocket scientists get above average tips. So do rock stars. Couriers still have a ways to go. But one of these days those tips will soar.
Another thing about the self employed courier is the tip income. It is a hope that one day tips will be exempt from taxing. Until then diligent record keeping is always a benefit.
