There are many types of deliveries. Many of those have been detailed, on this site, in one way or another. Every courier has a name for a particular delivery. Some of those names are notorious because of what they represent. Perhaps there was an extreme delay. Or the pickup was not ready when the courier arrived. Or maybe it is a different type, because of the cargo. For example the alcohol delivery. This type of delivery is so unique it has to have its own name.

With this in mind, certain types of deliveries require different handling. The best example in this regard, is the pizza delivery. It is a best practice to have a pizza heat bag. In fact, some merchants require one, in order to make the pickup. Therefore, the type of delivery would be a pizza delivery. The distinction is important because the more things available for delivery, the more work a courier will have.

This is absolutely because it is a, search for it, pickup. In other words, the courier must shop (hunt) for an item, and mark it off a cyber list. Once the courier locates all the items, and pays, the trip to the drop-off location begins.

The description above is slightly harsh. It is how shop and deliver once was. In fact when this type of delivery was in trial mode, it didn’t go well. This was in the very early days of this type of delivery. The biggest reason the delivery type didn’t do well, was the time it took to locate the items. If the courier was familiar with the store, so much the better. However, there was no system for quickly locating items.

The search for unfamiliar items, in an unfamiliar setting, became an unexpected slow down. Additionally, dedicated shop and deliver apps were just beginning to come on the scene. Therefore, that particular type of delivery (shop and deliver) was becoming more and more specialized. This had a positive impact on that type of delivery in particular.

It meant the merchants were seeing value in the service. Therefore they were taking steps to improve it. For example, labeling shelves with a number system. Thus enabling couriers to quickly locate items. Furthermore these number systems sync with the app in real time. As does a bar code scanner. All this goes a long way toward improving the scavenger hunt delivery.

The Best Pickup Line

No matter the type of delivery, it still has to be picked up. Sometimes the pickup location is part of a high mileage delivery. Other times, the pickup location may be experiencing a dinner, or lunch rush. The busier a merchant is, the more likely there are to be lines of people waiting.

Most merchants have an area designated for delivery pickups. Additionally delivery pickups have priority. Most merchants and their staff are keeping an eye out for the courier. Having the phone ready to show the delivery order details is a best practice. Getting that info to merchant staff as quickly as possible is the idea. Therefore, the best pickup line, is no line at all. Stay safe out there.
