The on time delivery with a new normal clock
Run the highway. Scan the road. Scout the offers, and accept the fairest one. From there the race is on. A courier’s biggest challenge is the clock. The mission is always about trying to beat the clock. Sometimes it’s easy. Other times it’s a run through molasses the whole way.
The solo courier using a delivery app, has a mission within a mission, on each delivery. Not only must the delivery arrive, but also it must be an on time delivery. While this sounds like a simple process (and in most cases it is) things don’t always go according to plan. In fact, more often than not the courier runs into a snag. Either it is on the road, or at the pick-up merchant.
With this in mind, a slight delay on the way, can cause an on time delivery fail. Furthermore, a slight delay while there, can also cause delays. And ultimately a late delivery. If this seems arbitrary and rigid, it is. Deadlines usually are. Similarly the on time rating for a courier, is the same as a working deadline.
The On Time Delivery
However, what happens when things get sideways, and it’s not the courier’s fault? For example, a long or excessive wait time at the merchant. Sometimes it happens. Once upon a time it happened a lot. These days it happens, but less frequently. Furthermore, it also depends on the merchant. Solo couriers know which merchants move, and which have molasses problems.
It comes from experience. The more active a courier is in a zone, the more likely that same courier knows the slow, from the fast. However, even that hard earned experience doesn’t always pan out. Indeed, there are times when the fastest most efficient merchants drop the ball. There could be any number of reasons why. All the courier knows is that there is a standstill, and the on time delivery, is in jeopardy.
This is where the good news comes in. Recently the delivery apps have taken the matter of the, on time delivery, to task. Similarly adjustments are being made in the apps to redefine the parameters for the late delivery. For example, adjusting the deadline clock accordingly when the merchant is running late. In this way the courier does not receive a ding in the ratings for something out of their control.
with a new normal clock
The essence of this article pertains to the solo courier using a delivery app. Crew couriers are part of an in-house team. Therefore predicting the timing of a delivery is part of their normal process. Furthermore, most in-house crews have an expediter that manages the outflow of the deliveries.
Add to this a static delivery zone, and the crew courier has a greater ratio of success, with on time delivery. A known system, is an accurate and timely system. Therefore, it is exciting news that the on time delivery will be more fairly rated. And couriers will have more chances to maintain and improve ratings. Stay safe out there.
