The olfactory challenge, is that your tummy growling?

The smell of freshly prepared food is awesome! The aroma is enticing and hunger inducing. It gets more intense when it’s close by. Especially in the front seat of the ride.

Furthermore, it will make a courier hungry as hell. Especially steakhouse cargo and pizza cargo. I’m getting hungry just thinking about it and I had my dinner already.

Another, olfactory event, is the morning after. The ride has imbibed the smells and aromas from the night before! It can be pleasant to step into the ride and smell a pizzeria! I’ll have mine with extra cheese!

It should be noted that this article is an opinion piece. Additionally, the experiences listed here are just that, the experiences of one courier. Some are from years of experience before a pandemic, then during a pandemic, and finally, after a pandemic.

    Olfactory Challenge

The ride does imbibe the smells of all that fresh hot cargo. Furthermore, the more cargo, the more steam from the cargo. It permeates seat fabrics and coats the inside of the vehicle’s glass. After a week or so, a noticeable buildup of grime on the glass will be obvious.

Depending on how often the courier works, this buildup could happen quicker. A good rule of thumb is the halo effect. The more halo a courier sees through the glass from lights, while it’s night, the more the glass needs cleaning.

These observations are from several years running pizzas. Sometimes those pizza deliveries are extreme. The average big pizza delivery is about seven or eight pies. There are deliveries with way more. My largest pizza run was 65 pies in one delivery.

The olfactory challenge on that one was extreme. The steam was also extreme. The timing of having that many pies ready and delivered hot, was also extreme. The imbibed pizza smell was to be expected, but also extreme.

However, it doesn’t take a carload of pizzas to get a tummy growling. There are times when a bag of Chipolte burritos, or a chicken sandwich, can create a salivary event resulting in an olfactory challenge. In short, it smells so good I’m almost out of my mind with hunger!

So, in answer to the question, yes that probably is my tummy growling. I am seriously hungry now that I think about it! Good thing I brought these peanut butter and jelly sandwiches! Stay safe out there!
