The new compliance check and how to pass it
The first part of an at home delivery, is about the pickup. Sometimes accepting an offer from a delivery queue is about who has the delivery. It’s not uncommon for couriers to have favorites. Once upon a time, the at home delivery courier, delivered pizza. And pretty much only pizza. Then came delivery apps. And variety in delivery choices, became a hit. At long last it was possible to have tacos delivered to the house. At dinnertime.
Not only tacos, but also professionally made sandwiches. Then came sushi. And one by one restaurant brands started adapting to include delivery. Furthermore, in some cases, the adaptations were costly and difficult for the merchant. For example, some of the finer dining restaurants, catered to fine dining, not delivery. However, there were extenuating circumstances. Such as a pandemic. In response to the situation, restaurants that wanted to stay in business, had to adapt.
With this in mind, the results now speak for themselves. It is possible to get delivery from a five star gourmet restaurant. It’s also possible to order groceries and have them delivered. And the variety of choices continues to grow. This includes places like the pet store where pet supplies can be picked up. Then there came the alcohol delivery. This is a delivery type all its own. In fact, it has a process, and the process is non-negotiable.
The New Compliance Check
Recently one of the major delivery apps released some important information. It relates to the alcohol delivery. Experienced couriers know, or should know, that the rules of the alcohol delivery are straight forward. Compliance with the procedure for verifying ID is a condition of the delivery. The courier with the delivery, acknowledges this, when accepting the delivery from the queue. Furthermore, there is a strict process for completing the delivery.
The rules of the alcohol delivery are important. They also help protect the courier. No matter where the delivery takes place, there are age restrictions. Similarly, picking up alcohol from the merchant means flashing the old ID. Even with gray hair and wrinkles. Some merchants still require ID for age verification. Therefore, it isn’t a surprise the courier must get ID verification to complete an alcohol delivery. It is about compliance with the law.

Now, back to that new information mentioned above. The information involves compliance checkpoints. For the courier. In other words, the at home customer could be a compliance check official. This means the courier could be under scrutiny from the moment the door opens. However, it’s the procedure that counts.
How to Pass the Test
It’s the procedure that counts. When the courier is in the habit of compliance with the procedure, there’s nothing to worry about. Furthermore, it’s a quick process. The only stipulation is not handing over the alcohol before the verification process clears. Although it’s rare, sometimes the ID isn’t valid. The courier will know if this is the case, after scanning the ID. If it clears, great! Hand the customer their package and carry on.
If the scan reveals an invalid ID, the delivery fails. At that point, the alcohol returns to the merchant. This is much smoother when the courier still possesses the alcohol. Furthermore, the return is an easy process. And the courier receives compensation for the return. It is a daunting feeling to deny a delivery. However, there are ways to keep the delivery in the safe zone. One of them is a technique I personally use.
Upon arrival to the drop-off location, proceed to the front door for the verification. Once the customer ID clears, return to the vehicle for the alcohol. If for some reason the ID doesn’t clear, return to the vehicle where the alcohol waits patiently for the return trip. This removes the alcohol from the equation until after the ID clears verification. Additionally, it is the way to pass the compliance check. Remember, don’t hand over the alcohol unless the ID clears the verification process. And stay safe out there.
