The new back to school delivery schedule
It’s that time of year again. The excitement is building and the back to school preparations have begun. The excitement of returning to school is almost too much to bear. Said no kid ever. However, another school year is beginning, and it brings with it some changes. Of course, the students returning to class will see changes in schedules and activities. Likewise, there will be changes on the road.
In fact, the courier will see several changes as the new school year begins to take shape. Changes on the road, and changes happening in some merchant locations. Additionally, the everyday rush window will shift, as new back to school schedules begin. This means a switch up in familiar systems. For example, traffic patterns. Where the road might once have been quiet, it is now jam packed, and almost impassable.
That is just one example of the changes that can happen when the seasons change. Or a new school year begins. Furthermore, the weekends will shift to reflect the new schedules. In other words, the late night rush becomes more intense on the weekends. Likewise, it carries on as late as there are merchants open to accommodate it. Meanwhile, some of the weekdays will see a decrease in late night activity.
Back to School Delivery Schedule
Back to school is an adjustment from the lazy days of summer. The courier who spent the summer delivering, adapted to the rush windows. Depending on the day, a delivery rush is sometimes predictable. For example, it’s a safe bet that between the hours of five and nine in the evening there will be an uptick in delivery orders. There may even be an ebb and flow effect. However, the intensity cools and the delivery rush ends, when the volume of business slows.

Likewise, it’s a safe assumption that there will be an uptick in deliveries on a Friday evening. The following day is Saturday and it’s a typical day off for many. Therefore, it’s possible to sleep in. The interesting thing about this is the uptick in lunch deliveries on the weekends. And it’s interesting because there is a drop in the late night rush of the week days. It is as though the weekends pick up the slack at lunch.
Experienced couriers work to capitalize on this trade-off. Similarly there is a late night increase in delivery requests for Saturday nights. It’s not common for Sunday nights because there is school and work the following day. Therefore, with Sunday delivery, the delivery requests begin to slow at earlier times.
The New Schedule
This is all part of the new delivery schedule. It changes based on the demand. Similarly the traffic a courier experiences, will change as new schedules are implemented. Furthermore, a more cautious approach to neighborhoods and school zones will become the norm. In the neighborhoods there will be school children waiting for the bus. Or walking to and from the bus stop. For this reason a safety first approach should be made in all neighborhoods.

With this in mind, afternoons are just as important. Especially in those school zones. The speed limit in school zones is a serious matter. An industrious courier will search for alternate routes. Particularly if the school zone route, will have a significant delay. In cases where this just isn’t possible, a careful and safe approach to school zones, is a courier best practice.
The same is true for neighborhoods in the early afternoons. There are many back to school changes to track, but one of the most important, is the safety of school children in the neighborhoods. In fact, driving safety in neighborhoods, should be treated the same as any school zone. Slow down. Watch for children. This is one positive way to adjust to the new back to school delivery schedule. Stay safe out there.
