The Mechanical Delay and 3 Ways to Win
Delays happen. They are famous for happening at the worst times. Occasionally a delay can end an entire driving shift, depending on the type of delay, it can also impact the whole day.
There are lots of tips to help with maximizing pay and offers while driving. All of these can help to achieve a productive driving shift. Every once in a while, though, not everything goes according to plan.
There can be all types of delays and slow downs. One type of delay that can really slow down a good series of runs is mechanical issues that cause delays.
Some issues are unpredictable and can be more serious than a simple delay. Those types of issues typically need a service center or some form of professional service for a resolution.
Other smaller mechanical issues can oftentimes be addressed on the spot and will get the courier back in the game, with only a short delay.
Staying Prepared
It’s a simple one but goes a long way towards a win against mechanical delay. Keeping a few common items on hand will assist in overcoming the mechanical delay.
Jumper cables are a must for times when the battery has failed. It is also possible to lend a helping hand if needed when toting around a pair of jumper cables.
Another good item to have on hand is an emergency battery jump starter. They come in many varieties and some are rechargeable, making them portable. This type of tool comes in handy when there are no other ways to get that extra boost of juice.
Another basic
It’s going to seem old school and in some ways it is very much old school. And it has saved my bacon on more than one occasion. It is the humble but very effective gas can.
Keeping that fuel can available, just in case, is worth it every time. It’s possible to run out of gas anywhere. And if the courier is using a full sized vehicle, there isn’t much moving a two ton paperweight, once it hits dead E.
This type of mechanical delay can be easily defeated with a walk to the nearest petrol station. With that gas can, otherwise it’s just a walk.
Sticking with the basics
Another type of delay that can sometimes slow a courier down, is the overheated radiator. Not every radiator issue is a quick fix, in fact, a lot of them aren’t. There are the occasions when a radiator problem is a matter of no coolant.
This can happen most often as summer rolls in, and the outside temps climb. That is one of the most common times for radiators to experience issues, such as overheating due to low coolant.
Keeping a jug of premixed coolant on board, is an excellent win against the overheating delay. It is extremely dangerous to attempt coolant adding while the vehicle is hot, every precaution should be observed when dealing with this type of mechanical delay.
