The low money gamble and better courier feedback
Running a series of deliveries is a great way to make extra income. Using a delivery app, and a personal vehicle, a valuable side hustle can be developed. It’s also possible to turn that side hustle into a full schedule opportunity. One that offers an office with a view. Although the seat isn’t at a desk. Instead, it’s behind a steering wheel.
Couriers using a delivery app to complete deliveries, have a selection process. Learned from experience, not an article or a guide. The articles and guides (this one included) help. They provide ideas and clues. However, the best way to develop a system of delivery, is by doing it. This is how preferences in a delivery evolve. For example, short distance deliveries. Some couriers prefer a short distance run. In fact, it is the only type of delivery they look for.
With this in mind, those same couriers had to develop an eye for that type of delivery. And then wait for it to show up in the queue. Furthermore, it was likely after a low money gamble. This one way the courier learns how to select the best opportunities from the delivery queue. It takes a few not great ones to shed some light on the preferred ones.
The Low Money Gamble
The low money gamble is more than a lesson for learning. In fact, it’s a curiously unexpected windfall, sometimes. However, this is a rare thing. Much of the time the low money gamble is just that. A gamble. One with low odds of a bonus. Other times a low money gamble pays better than the original offer from the queue. There are no special attributes that make it possible to know the difference. That’s why it’s a gamble.

Furthermore, there are some customers that still prefer to tip with cash. Therefore, it won’t show up in the offer from the queue. However, it is often mentioned in the special notes, or instructions, once the courier accepts the offer from the queue. Not always. Not even sometimes. But occasionally it is mentioned. Then there are the times it happens, after the fact.
After the fact means the courier receives a notice after the delivery completion. It is a notice of additional tipping from the previous drop-off. That is a low money gamble, paying off. This is possible on every delivery but it only happens occasionally. The only way to know if a low money gamble is worth it, is to accept the offer and complete the delivery.
Better Courier Feedback
One of the things a delivery app looks for is courier feedback. Just like any service, real time feedback helps shape future improvements for better performance. Furthermore, one of the most effective feedback options is easy to overlook. It is also easy to use. It is usually located at the bottom of the dispatch screen, after the courier arrives at the pickup location.
Many couriers see the link but choose not to use it. The link is a question about the delivery. Is it ready for pick up? Click the link and another menu appears. This one is a list of common reasons for the pick up delay. For example, the delivery order is still being prepared. Or, the delivery order was not started until the courier arrived. Additionally, there are times when the courier can’t get help from the merchant staff. There’s an option for that one too.
Checking the appropriate reason for the delay gives the app real time feedback about the current delivery. Furthermore, it only takes the courier a few seconds to toggle the menu and make a selection. The feedback will help improve future pick ups at that location. That means the merchant can work on, and solve the issues that caused the delay. That means an improved delivery for the next customer and the courier. Definitely a win win. Stay safe out there.
