The first rule of quick delivery – Tales of the Courier
It isn’t the rule that matters. It’s the consequences of ignoring it. 1courier is thinking this as he pushes the ride for all it’s worth. It doesn’t take long before he arrives at the drop-off location. He jumps from the ride and grabs the cargo from the rear compartment. Within minutes he is standing in front of the appropriate door. Three minutes after that, he is almost back to the ride.
The next offer arrives while he is returning to the ride. He knows, there are more offers ahead. However, this one takes the cake for being odd. 1courier pulls away from the previous drop-off location. The m-com link flashes again. There is additional info. A quick check reveals a special request. Furthermore, it will be revealed after the pickup. 1courier slams on the brakes.
An open ended special request? What was HQ playing at? 1courier floors the accelerator pedal. The ride accelerates as the road twists, and winds its way through a narrow canyon. As he drives, 1courier can’t help but think about the last special request he received. It certainly didn’t feel special to him. Furthermore, the requests are special because they are almost always unavoidable. Who keeps one of those creatures for a pet anyway? The road straightens, and 1courier puts the hammer down.
The First Rule
The last special request delivery, went like most, until he got back on the road. A normal box, they had said. Nothing to be concerned about, they had said. Twenty minutes later, while 1courier was barreling down the highway, the creature broke free. The chaos that ensued was memorable. To say the least.
Who could possibly think, that creature, made a good pet? 12 stitches and three bites later, 1courier was done with that delivery. Additionally, the tetanus shot was an insult to injury. However, the alternative was not acceptable. Furthermore, he was left with a new standard. Or, as he calls it, the first rule of quick delivery. Surely HQ would understand, a courier has to follow the rules.
Once more, he checks to see what the special request is. However, there are no details. 1courier thinks that, on a list of one through ten, the suspense of this special request, is eleven. He downshifts the ride, and prepares to leave the highway. The pickup location is only ten minutes away.
Quick Delivery
The m-com link flashes. And 1courier feels relieved. Perhaps HQ has reconsidered the special request. Therefore, it is with some disappointment, that he discovers the drop-off location has changed. It is much closer than before. In fact, it is only one block away. The navigation system quickly updates the map. And 1courier slams the brakes, for the second time today.
Although he almost missed the pickup location, he has nevertheless, arrived. Once he is out of the ride, it only takes a few minutes to secure the cargo. The container is heavy and is marked, fragile. Additionally, there are small vents along the top edge of the container. Breathing vents?
1courier is contemplating this, as he pushes the container into the rear cargo hold. As he does, he notices a warning label. “Danger! Do not open box!” He grins, it’s funny because he isn’t planning on it. In fact, he is counting the time backwards from his last tetanus shot. This time, he grins back at the strange, angry looking eye, peering out at him, from one of the vents in the cargo box. At least this time he won’t need that tetanus shot.
