The early bird and the New Year worm
It’s that time of year again. The holiday has arrived and there is a palpable sense of excitement in the air. Happy New Year’s eve! The stage is set for a busier than average holiday delivery scene. Furthermore, the early bird will have a positive advantage this year. This has a lot to do with the timing of the holiday. However, it is possible to see an uptick in business for the early bird courier.
Although it is a middle of the week holiday, it can still get very busy. In fact, the rush is, as the rush does. Sometimes it comes in early. Other times it ebbs and flows. Then there are the times when a holiday is unofficially celebrated. For example, the weekend before a mid week holiday. This can influence the intensity of the mid week holiday rush window.
With this in mind, the weekend before, is usually when that unofficial holiday kicks in. It’s easy to predict because it’s all about going to work the next day. The party will be better, and go longer, if there’s no work the next day. Therefore, the weekend before the middle of the week holiday, is a great time to celebrate.
The Early Bird
Responsibilities and commitments keep people busy almost all the time. Therefore a holiday celebration is just what the DJ ordered. Except, it has to be short. And everyone needs to leave at an appropriate time. People are up early the next day. Furthermore, celebrating with alcohol, needs an early bird plan. Moderation will absolutely be the key. (There is work the next day.)
The early bird courier, means being ready, in case the rush starts early. Therefore, the courier needs to be ready earlier. A courier’s usual rush start, depending on the courier’s zone, can begin much earlier on a middle of the week holiday. Similarly it can end much earlier too. (People are preparing for work the next day.)
Couriers that worked the rush this previous weekend, likely saw an increase in alcohol deliveries. Not only was there an uptick in alcohol deliveries, but also the delivery volume. The entire weekend was an eventful delivery work experience. And busy. Unofficial holidays usually are intense.
The New Year Worm
The New Year’s Day, is almost here. While many will have a day off to celebrate. (recuperate) Others will need to punch the time clock. And then clock-in. It’s possible that some delivery customers will party like it’s the New Year. Those will be very helpful in creating an intense dinner rush for the courier.
However, it is important to be on the field early. If the solo courier usually sees an early afternoon rush, show up an hour earlier, for the middle of the week holiday. This is a general rule of thumb for the courier. Particularly for hot fresh food delivery. The courier benefits from an early start. Many delivery customers get an early start. Therefore a courier can benefit from being an early bird.
Interestingly this also carries for New Years Day. There are more than a few who have the day off like a regular holiday. Therefore a courier can expect to see an increase in daytime delivery activity on the holiday itself. Once again the early bird will score the best worm. Stay safe out there.
