The delivery finesse of the timely field mouse
The queue is beginning to grow. The field mouse gets into the line. It appears as though many in the kingdom have arrived to participate in the event. However, the field mouse is not worried. In fact, moving fast is an everyday event for this timely field mouse. Therefore, it made sense to enter the race. Not to mention, there would be a chance to visit the Royal Castle.
The little field mouse shudders in excitement, as the crowd of participants grows. The message from the castle must have reached every inhabitant of the kingdom by now. There are many royal subjects already lined up, and ready. In fact, the field mouse is standing just behind an inch worm. It is a very small inch worm. The field mouse thinks there is certainly a challenge ahead, for one so small.
The delivery finesse of the timely field mouse
An owl lands just behind, the field mouse. The surprise and shock are enough to send the little mouse scampering for dear life. However, he manages to hold his ground. And stay put. Instead of fleeing, he decides the owl is likely unaware of his presence. Furthermore, this event is not a hunt. It is a race.
With this in mind, it is only through an act of will that the field mouse remains. Otherwise, the delivery finesse of the timely field mouse, would be very evident. In the hasty retreat back to the den. Yet, there was no way the little field mouse could return now. In fact, there was nothing left to return to. Therefore, a trip to the royal castle, is exactly what the field mouse needs.
More on the way
As the field mouse watches, a long eared hare joins the group. Now things are getting serious. There aren’t many that are faster, than a long eared hare. However, it would take more than speed, or stealth, to win this race. Sometimes it was all about finesse, and skill. In fact, saving time through deliberate care is as good as, if not better than, making time with too much haste.
Haste makes waste. This is the wise saying every field mouse knows. Therefore another furtive look around, reveals more inhabitants of the kingdom are joining the event. That is when a murmur passes through the line of racers. A whisper that spreads and soon excites the entire crowd.
Someone saw something jumpy, and green. It was like a blur, moving faster than anyone had ever seen. Now the field mouse can feel the excitement too. Something was definitely happening here. There was magic growing in the kingdom and if there hadn’t been a large owl standing right behind the little field mouse, there would have been more than a few squeaks of excitement. Soon the race would begin.
