The dark days of delivery past then came fire
It was bright and hot in unpredictable ways. It could warm and comfort or burn and wound. This is about that old school pizza, and it needed to get to a destination. The faster the better.
Furthermore, there were no pocket computers to highlight a desired route. It was a paper map and memory. Every step of the way. Somewhere along the way a time limit was instilled for marketing purposes.
However it didn’t last. And that wasn’t completely because most everyone found a way to game that system. It was also dangerous as hell for the drivers.
Delivery Past
With this in mind, delivery became an evolved occupation, when the tools of the craft evolved. Cell phones became more sophisticated and were able to easily load maps, in real time. This had the effect of being able to find a location no matter where one was.
It was once fairly difficult, to find some places on the map. But nowadays that map is pocket size, and has some serious power.
With a pocket map, and the one that comes with most rides these days, the courier has little chance of getting lost. Not only does the courier have little chance of getting lost, but also there’s no unknown place on the map.
But if the courier were interested in a trip through the past, it would be easy to simulate. Firstly a small piece of paper and a pen. Secondly write down the street name of each turn. Finally, turn off the screen and go by paper direction only. It’s much easier than it sounds.
When the screen isn’t the main concern, it’s much easier to focus on road conditions, and the street signs. Proving that, while less flashy, old school is every bit as sound, as the modern day approach. Stay safe out there.
