The competitive delivery market and the new courier
Competition is a given in the delivery field. There are many delivery service providers. And there are many established merchants, providing delivery services. For example, a favorite pizza restaurant. There are also specialized merchants participating with in-house crews. Depending on the city, or area, there could be many merchants, with in-house crews.
However, there are also many delivery service options, in the delivery market. It isn’t exclusive to established merchants. In fact, there are many delivery apps and online delivery resources, to choose from. Furthermore, in some cases, the competition for deliveries can be intense. Many of the well known apps offer incentives and cost saving deals to entice new customers. As well as new couriers.
The Competitive Delivery Market
With this in mind, it can be said that the competitive delivery market, is an evolving service. One that fosters competition. This is not unusual. In fact, there is a competitive environment in most merchant delivery crews. This is something new couriers might be unfamiliar with. However, it is a part of the job.
Similarly there is competition between delivery apps. This competition can be a benefit for the customer. As well as the courier. For example, more deliveries over all. Or, better quality deliveries. There are many ways that competition between delivery apps, and other delivery services, can be a bonus for a courier. The first of which is job security.
Although in-house delivery crews are limited to one brand, or merchant, there is still a competitive environment. It is between the couriers of the in-house crew. In other words, it pays less, to be the slowest courier. This is one reason experienced couriers refer to the dinner crowd as the dinner rush. There is usually a lot of hustle in returning to the merchant, after a drop-off.
The idea is to get back on the dispatch board, to be next in line. The more completions a courier can achieve, the better. Especially in the shortest time possible.
The New Courier
Similarly, the solo courier using a delivery app, needs the same kind of hustle. On every delivery. The quicker the courier can return to the queue, the better. This gives the most amount of opportunities, in the least amount of time. Furthermore, this carries across every delivery app. The courier is always competing against the clock.
New couriers will catch on to this pretty quick. However, it is important not to confuse expediency, with reckless speeding. The safety conscious courier is the successful courier. Jack rabbit starts, and heavy braking, only wastes resources. It is difficult to pocket earnings, when the pocket is constantly being emptied.
One of the advantages of the competitive delivery market, is plenty of work. With this in mind, the new courier can be safe on the roads, and still get many deliveries in a short amount of time.
