The Christmas tree delivery challenge and the easy out
It’s a tree. They are majestic and fundamental. They grow year round. Also they can be delivered. It is an option for some delivery apps. It is like the alcohol option but a little more green. Additionally, it doesn’t easily fit in a bag. It is an unusual, and oddly shaped package. Therefore, a few things should be considered, when accepting this delivery type.
A tree is oddly shaped, when compared to the interior of a vehicle. Depending on the make of the ride, the tree may not fit inside. Furthermore, most trunk compartments are not able to contain a full size Christmas tree. So if the courier is not using a truck, where will the tree go? The roof of the vehicle is the only place left. Similarly, how will it stay in the only place it will fit, while cruising down the road?
The courier must be the one to secure the cargo. If the courier has cargo straps (Ratchet straps are best) then the tie down will be more effective. If the courier keeps extra tie rope for tying down cargo, that will also help. Otherwise, the twine offered at the tree lot, will have to do. Make sure to have all the windows open for looping the tie down around the tree.
The Christmas Tree Delivery
The idea of delivering a Christmas tree is exciting. After all, it is one of the most festive times of the year. It is also a positive to think about the excitement of the delivery customer. Yet, there are drawbacks to making the delivery. The main one being that it isn’t a smooth process. There is time spent securing the cargo. And this is before it leaves the lot. Then the courier must drive carefully. Especially, if the tree is on the roof of the vehicle.
Once the courier arrives at the drop-off location (same as any other) it is time to unload the tree. This is a deliberate step in the process, because trees are usually heavy. And awkward to move. With this in mind, having clear drop-off instructions is key to a smooth, albeit physical, drop-off of the tree.
Experienced couriers know that drop-off locations vary in difficulty. Some are easy to access. And some are at the top of mountains. Others are in the depths of subterranean darkness. Perhaps that is a little exaggerated, but only a little. Nevertheless, the tree must go to the prearranged drop-off spot. Bring gloves, they will be needed.
The Easy Out
This article is about the Christmas tree delivery. It’s intent is to highlight the mechanics of the delivery. There are more things to consider with this type of delivery. However, through the experience, the courier discovers them. Things like tree sap and other tree attributes. In short, it is an involved delivery. A hands-on effort that takes more time than the average delivery.
The easy out in this scenario, is not to opt-in, to begin with. When the chance to opt-in shows up in the app, some caveats also appear. However, they are not as in-depth as this article. Furthermore, the intent of this article is not to discourage the Christmas tree delivery, but to detail it. The more informed a courier is, the more likely the earnings, will reflect it. Stay safe out there.
