Courier work can be fast paced. It can also be boring at times. As with most jobs, there are different sides to the courier field of work. There are numerous details on each delivery, and a time limit as well. Therefore, it can be fast paced and deliberately slow, simultaneously.
Although that may sound like a contradiction in terms, it is actually a true statement. Furthermore, the old saying, “hurry up and wait” comes to mind. This is a way of describing the flow, or sometimes the chaotic flow, of a delivery. Tuning into the flow of a delivery is a learned technique. It is also an important part of the delivery process.
With this in mind, the flow of the delivery can best be felt during a live rush. This event is a rapid onslaught of delivery opportunities. When one delivery completion after another occurs, for an extended amount of time, the courier begins to sense the flow or essence, of each delivery. The system or process, becomes obvious. After time, the process becomes routine.

Consequently, time can pass without being eventful. Then on one particular day, there are many strange occurrences. For example, the little one that answers the door for the delivery drop-off. It is with great excitement and eager anticipation because they are getting to be like grownups. It is obvious this small delivery event, is a big deal for this particular drop-off customer.
Additionally, there are times when the courier may have the opportunity to help in other ways. For example, sharing a spark. Or, helping with a jump start, if asked. Or perhaps someone needs help with a flat tire. Sharing a tire repair plug kit, is another great payout, not found in an app.
Furthermore, even with state of the art navigation maps, people still need directions. Particularly in areas not covered by GPS. Such as the inside of a mall, or the other similar places. The experienced courier is able to quickly answer these questions, and more if need be.

Finally, there is the scenic route. Route selection is a courier art form. There could be any number of reasons why a courier may select one route, over another. Some might have to do with the scenery. Other reasons may have to do with the calculated use of resources.
Whatever the reasoning behind a courier’s choices, there is usually some purpose aside from the obvious. The flexibility of the work, means the courier may often see more payouts, not found in an app. Especially on those faraway deliveries. Stay safe out there.
