The best way to navigate a difficult delivery
Finding the way is a courier specialty. Between diversions, detours and distractions, finding the way can be a challenge. Especially when a delivery has gone off the rails. There could be any number of reasons why a delivery falters. In some cases it’s about the cargo. Whatever the cargo may be. Then there are traffic delays. Furthermore, there could be vehicle issues that slow the delivery.
All of the examples listed above are possible. Likewise, it’s not a matter of if they will happen, but when they will happen. Although that may sound like doom speak, it is really just an example of the law of averages. Do something enough times, and sooner or later, an anomaly will occur. Or a snafu. Once it happens, the courier ends up having to navigate a difficult delivery. This is especially true with some drop-off locations.
Many articles on this site detail issues with a delivery pickup. For example, the cargo is delayed. Or, the cargo has already left the building. Furthermore, in some cases (hot fresh food delivery) the order was not prepared when it was received. This can create a huge delay in the delivery completion. When that happens, a courier must decide if the delivery is even possible. Further still, it is important to keep the delivery customer in the loop.
The Best Way to Navigate a Difficult Delivery
With this in mind, it isn’t always an issue with the cargo. It could be a major traffic delay, on the only route available. When this happens, there is little that can be done for it. Other than waiting it out. Ideally, in this scenario, the courier makes contact with the drop-off location. From the delivery customer’s perspective, the courier is just sitting still on the tracker map. The delivery customer can’t see the traffic jam, and how it goes on for miles.

Nevertheless, an experienced courier will find the way. However, some of the most difficult deliveries happen right at the end. Just before the completion. Sometimes it is an extremely treacherous driveway. And other times it is a cleverly hidden house. Moreover, the GPS doesn’t lend any clues to help navigate those situations. For example, a new construction house, that isn’t visible on the GPS mapping system yet.
This is when the delivery becomes difficult to navigate. In the case of a treacherous driveway, the terrain can be so bad there is an actual risk to the courier’s safety. Especially if it is an after dark delivery. Following a simple rule can help prevent a snafu. When in doubt, get out, and check it out.
The Best Way
When in doubt check it out. Most times, if the courier can’t see the top of the driveway, there is likely no room for maneuvering at the top. Therefore, what goes up, must come down. Backwards. With only a little mirror, or some backup cameras, to help. Therefore, getting out and checking it out, may result in a much safer walk to the top.
Driveways are very familiar to the people living there. A courier that is only visiting once, has no idea about the dangerous details of the driveway. Especially in the dark. With this in mind, the best way to navigate the driveway might be on foot. Additionally, paying close attention to the delivery notes, can provide the courier with helpful clues.
Many homeowners and renters alike, know their driveway is difficult to navigate. This is why they leave details about the safest way to do so. Details that often include taking a brief walk for some good old fashioned cardio. Stay safe out there.
