The best restaurant from a courier’s perspective

The best restaurant from a courier’s perspective

Couriers spend a lot of time on the road. Between the courier, truckers and drivers of all types, tons of cargo moves daily. Which requires a huge amount of road time. With all the road time, comes a few unexpected bonuses. Sometimes these bonuses are nothing more than memorable views and real time contact. Other times the bonuses are all about hands-on or in person, experiences.

Occasionally this bonus is a fur baby adventure. Although, these days, most fur babies are well supervised. Therefore, there is less flight risk on a meet at the door drop-off. However, it still happens. And when it isn’t an unplanned fur baby chase, there is usually some strange place to set the cargo. Or package. Or food.

The courier delivering hot fresh food, has a unique placement in the priority delivery game. In fact, it is typical for the hot fresh food courier, to have some wait time at a merchant’s location. Sometimes. Other times, there may be a lengthy delay. (For tips on how to handle those delays click here)

    The Best Restaurant

Since the courier is at many merchant locations, and usually for longer than a minute, it’s possible to make observations. For example, how busy the place is for the time of day. Or evening. Similarly the amount of waiting customers, also tells a tale.

One of the first things a courier looks for at the pickup location, is the delivery pickup sign. Merchants designate these areas for courier pickup. Additionally it helps keep the courier out of the dine-in customer line. The courier has to go. There’s no time for dining. Just pickup and go.

That’s the plan. The reality is the plan, isn’t always humming along. When the plan goes sideways, and the courier is left waiting, the slow down can feel frustrating. Similarly, the courier is now in the hot seat, because the delivery has come to a stand still. However, all is not lost.

    A Courier’s Perspective

There is an abundance to learn from a stalled delivery. For example which merchant is it? That information will be useful for the delivery queue in the future. How the merchant deals with issues, and whether or not the delivery is prioritized (especially a late delivery) is worth noting. Furthermore, identifying and solving problems, says a lot about a merchant.

With this in mind, the best restaurants prioritize deliveries, and the delivery customer. Sometimes the courier assists in this endeavor. Particularly if substitutions are likely, or necessary. Other times, the only thing the courier can do is wait, and observe.

The observations are handy for future reference. Especially in finding the best restaurant. While it isn’t really a once bitten twice shy deal; it’s still a good idea to gather the Intel, just in case. Knowing about a problem area beforehand, is a benefit for the courier. Avoiding it in the future is money, and time, saved.

The best restaurant from a courier’s perspective

It helps to look at it upside down. Hot fresh food deliveries get priority because no one likes cold, hot fresh food. Therefore, the delivery has priority with the merchant. Then it has priority with the courier.

And finally, the drop off location, prioritizes the ringing doorbell.

There might be five other, previously dropped off, packages at the door. However the door will open for the hot fresh food. Because no one likes cold, hot fresh food. The best restaurant knows this. The professional courier knows this. And the grateful delivery customer tips for this. A quality delivery is about more than speed. However, that is for the next article. Stay safe out there.
