The balanced delivery scale, when does that thing tip?
The balanced delivery is a great thing. It means that every part of the process went smoothly. Also the completion, and that’s no small feat. Now for the next, and a possible repeat performance. Going for gold every time, is a worthwhile goal, for the courier.
Moreover, dedication and perseverance will help in days that are less than stellar. This happens in bad weather or good. Hence, less than stellar.
The delivery scale hasn’t been mentioned on this site, before this article. It is rhetorical, and is an unofficial way to rate deliveries. For the courier. It takes into account things that are not typical. For example the difficulty factor for a dropoff location.
Whether or not the pickup location has parking, is also a delivery scale item. Nothing jams a delivery faster than having nowhere to stash the ride. The courier should avoid parking in paid spots unless there is no other way. Also, the closer the better.
Personally I prefer to keep the ride close enough to see at all times. There are security risks with an unattended ride, keep it locked, while away. It is possible to return to the ride, and find raiders are helping themselves to the contents.
They only got my lunch, but I had been looking forward to that sandwich.
Another part of that rhetorical scale is the tip. That’s a tough subject, because it’s about money. Earnings are on a sliding scale for the courier. There is no guarantee of any income, the courier is at the mercy of the market and the economy. Respectively.
The Tip
Furthermore, there is no such thing as the owed tip. Tipping is optional. The courier can work diligently to achieve a quality delivery experience, every time. If there is a tip that is wonderful. However, if the courier is astute when accepting offers, the tip (should there be one) becomes a bonus, not a necessity.
The original concept of the delivery driver, was to bring convenience and a sense of luxury, to the recipient. Once upon a time it was cool to have hot fresh food delivered, just in time for the big game. Or the rose ceremony. That sense of a ‘special moment’, is bread and butter for the courier.
Anytime the courier is able to provide a service that is unavailable otherwise, is an opportunity to increase earnings through the possibility of a tip. For example, accepting a faraway, heavy mileage offer.
Most people have a favorite, already prepared, hot fresh food. If they live far away from this coveted sustenance, having it delivered is similar to a special occasion. With hustle and attention to detail the courier can provide a solid delivery experience. This will give the courier every chance to prosper. Stay safe out there.
