The Art of the Doorbell and What’s That Smell?
It’s part of the job but not an unpleasant one. It’s consistent and reliable. A courier will encounter it at almost every drop off location. Knowing how to handle it is a positive step in the completion of the drop off.
It is the doorbell. This is more than a part of the job. This is what must be used to complete the job, in some cases. Speaking figuratively, some form of the doorbell has to be used, in every case.
Even if it’s the humble knock on the door.
Once upon a time every delivery was about making contact with the recipient, to assure that the delivery had been made. Particularly where hot fresh food was concerned.
This way of doing the job meant it was important to get someone to come to the door when the courier had arrived. It was a hand off in those days, not a drop off.
A courier had to be persistent and methodical in the effort to get the customer to the door. This was and still is more complex than it sounds.
Doorbell Art
As life renormalizes from the lingering effects of a pandemic, the process for ‘no-contact’ deliveries is renormalizing as well. At least 50% of my runs are now meet at the door hand offs. About time! Go old normal!
This means that the humble doorbell is about to become a superstar once again! The art of the doorbell will become a necessary means to complete that run!
Not every place will have a doorbell, and many that do, will have one that doesn’t function. This is something a courier has to listen carefully for while on the doorstep. A soft melodic sound from within the structure.
Having tech as a backup is a great advantage these days! It makes reliance on the old school doorbell a little less critical. Making it possible to keep the numbers in good shape and make sure the cargo is well cared for.
What’s that smell?
Speaking of cargo, what’s that smell? Oh my goodness it smells divine! Is that pizza? Oh the joy!
It is such an enjoyment to have the opportunity to ferry so many different types and styles of food! It’s amazing how the smell of food being prepared hot and fresh can evoke so many appetizing thoughts!
From being in establishments that prepare a particular food to transporting that food, the many appetizing and delicious smells can become a very distracting distraction!
It’s similar to driving as if driving the restaurant around, and using it to make deliveries of its food. The ride will have that smell of pizza for days! Which means Pizza will be on the menu again tonight! Stay safe out there!
