Tales of the safe delivery and one piece completions
A safe delivery is the goal of the courier every time. Once upon a time hot fresh food delivery was less common. In those days the courier relied on good faith and the ability to memorize. Additionally the courier was fortunate if there was a phone nearby.
Most deliveries back then were cash deliveries and couriers carried large bankrolls of cash. This is also untrue. However, in the not too distant past and still in some places today, cash deliveries will happen. When they do the courier will have a small bank to make change if need be.
This mainly applies to the crew courier. A merchant with an in-house delivery crew usually expects cash deliveries as part of sales. However even those are becoming more rare as more and more customers complete orders using an app.
Tales of the safe delivery
With this in mind, it is common to see most everything completed in a delivery app these days. From the address, to the payment, everything is included in an app. Furthermore, the cargo is tracked in the app. As well as the courier.
In fact, the courier is tracked as closely as the phone or device being used to access the app. Additionally, this means the courier’s proximity to the drop-off matters. In the same way the courier’s location counts when it’s time to pick up cargo. Proximity matters.
Furthermore, safety matters. In fact it is a first consideration. There are many situations a courier can be in that may not be safe. The first that comes to mind is traffic. The second is outside the safety parameters of a delivery app. There is a reason the app is structured in the way it is.
For example, having a recourse of action if the delivery goes sideways. And they do. All the time. A crew courier needs only call back to home base. This allows the merchant’s management team to decide the course of action. The solo courier also has a guide in the delivery app.
Moreover this guide helps determine the course of action should the courier feel unsafe. For example, the drop-off location messages the courier that the address is wrong. Additionally, could the courier deliver to an isolated location for an extra tip. Often this other location is many miles further than the courier agreed originally.
one piece completions
The courier can decide to accept the new arrangement. However, it should be done in the app with the assistance of a live agent. In this way the new delivery address is a matter of record. This will allow the courier to see the updated info in-app. Furthermore, it better protects the courier. In this way the courier is more likely to return home in one piece.
This resetting of the delivery only takes a few minutes and the courier is free to choose to refuse the new delivery drop-off. In that event the courier need only follow along in-app to complete the delivery another way. Stay safe out there.
