Tales of the Courier – Useful but squashed anyway
1courier watches the ride crumple and then flatten. It is fortunate he arrived when he did. Otherwise that could’ve been him. From inside the factory, he watches as the flattened ride is pressed flat to the ground. As he watches, he wonders what the hell happened. Furthermore, there is no doubt something happened. He turns from the window in the door of the factory, and finds himself being observed by many eyes.
He looks from his left to his right. And there are many eyes peering back at him. They are all silent, as they stare at 1courier. Likewise, all the activity seems to have stopped. Everything is just…still. He grins. How peculiar, he thinks. Additionally, he is half expecting the roof to begin crumpling, just as the ride did. However, everything seems normal, here in the factory of the many eyes.
Although the ride just bit the dust, 1courier still has a job to do. Therefore, he takes a quick look around to see if he can spot the waiting cargo. As he moves to get a better view the eyes follow him. They are carefully observing every little move he makes. So far there has been no incident with them. 1courier doesn’t think there will be either. They are the robot workers of this factory, and they do not have his cargo ready.
Tales of the Courier – Useful but squashed anyway
The robots stare at him, and observe his movements. They have ceased all other activities. Similarly, they appear unaware of the events taking place outside the factory. With this in mind, 1courier checks the m-com link. Maybe HQ was ahead of the curve on this one. The news, is not entirely bad.
Dispatch has issued another ride for him. This is good news. Additionally, an orbital experiment went sideways, and now gravity is collapsing worldwide. This is bad news. But not as bad as the cargo being delayed another five minutes. Now 1courier is wound up like a spring. How could the cargo be delayed? Especially when confirmed as ready ahead of time?
Furthermore this appeared to be a factory of robots. What gives? How can robots be late? 1courier looks up expecting the eyes to be keenly observing him. They are all conspicuously somewhere else. Apparently 1courier was no longer the oddity. Everything else was.
Tales of the Courier
Thirty minutes later, after some long stares from 1courier this time, the ride from HQ arrives. However there is the problem of getting to it. He is unclear on how the ride can withstand the crushing gravity problem from the orbital experiment mishap. Yet it does. It sits pristine in the lot outside the factory door.
Additionally he has the cargo. It was ready shortly after he called for the spare ride. Now he need only get the cargo, and himself, to the new ride before they are squashed. He remembers the sight of the previous ride crushing itself into paste. All he could do was hope he could run fast enough. He grabs the cargo and takes a last look around. There is something more here, however it will have to wait. For now.
Useful but Squashed
Next, 1courier slams through the door of the factory, and makes for the ride. He is moving quickly at first. Then he feels the downward pressure, and slows to a crawl. It is pushing him to the ground. It is so strong he is on his knees when he reaches the ride. Then he opens the door of the ride and climbs in. The moment the door shuts, the pressure regulates. Then he begins to rise, fast. So fast, he slams against the roof of the ride. Then he lands face up in the passenger seat as the ride, and everything else, begins to quickly rise into the air.
