Tales of the courier – The special delivery effect
1courier blinks twice and takes in the new digs. It is HQ. Rather than wonder how he had just been instantly transported here, he walks on in instead. It was usual for HQ to have unusual methods. 1courier grins, at least he will get to see old stuffy again.
With this in mind, he decides to check in with the courier motor pool. Been a while since he had seen the new equipment. The building is multi level and 1courier takes the elevator to the lower levels. Additionally, he was without the m-com link. It was back at his last drop-off location.
Tales of the Courier – The special delivery
He is sure HQ will replace the device. The m-com link is standard equipment for every courier. A must have. Then he enters the motor pool department. And finds it mostly empty. Strange. Furthermore, there is only one vehicle visible, in all the service floor area.
This is unusual, but not unexpected. In fact, this isn’t the first time he has watched several drones loading a ride. Indeed, it looks like it will be a minute. Therefore, he might as well go see why this mission is so urgent. Consequently, the trip over to the command center takes less than five minutes.
A small package with his name on it, waits for him. Furthermore, it sits on the reception kiosk. It is a new m-com link. He grins, HQ was nothing, if not reliable. As if winking secretly, the m-com link fires up, flashing urgently. He is expected immediately in dispatch. Time for his update.
When he arrives at dispatch, it is also empty. There is a package with his name on it, at the dispatch desk. Odd. He opens the container and removes a key. It is for the ride in the motor pool below. He immediately vanishes from the dispatch area.
The special delivery
1courier appears on the side of the highway, three thousand miles away. Also, he is standing next to the ride, and still holds the small package.
Additionally, there is a flash from the m-com link and 1courier knows the job has begun. As he examines the small package that held the key, he notices a small note written on one side:
“Only the courier will be allowed through the gate”
