Tales of the Courier – The full gaslight paradox
The road is long. There is only one other place where a courier belongs. Further up the road. 1courier is working on fitting in, as he floors the accelerator pedal, and lets the power roll. The traffic ahead, swiftly becomes the traffic behind. This delivery would soon be complete.
With this in mind, it will be after this delivery, when he finally gets a break. Therefore, he is planning some fine dining, once the run is complete. A large block of time elapsed while he was making the completions. Now, after this last drop-off, he will be free to make a delivery to himself.
1courier grins, then checks the delivery bag again. It is set and ready for the drop-off. Checking the Navi map, shows his position is just three minutes away from the drop-off location. Therefore, he is somewhat surprised when the gaslight flashes on. Furthermore, the tank is almost full.
Tales of the Courier
The highway rushes past him, and the brightly lit gaslight, seems to taunt him. It is unclear what has happened. Indeed, 1courier is about to pull over and check for leaks. However there is no time. Furthermore, the last time he was stationary, he filled this ride’s tank. With fuel. Now he is seeing the gaslight, which indicates he is running out of fuel.
As the drop-off location nears, he begins to wonder if he actually did stop for the fuel. Obviously the gaslight is on. However, that didn’t mean the tank was empty. There were still several more miles before the drop-off location. This was going to come down to the wire. A small bead of sweat drops from his brow.
The gaslight begins to blink. It seems things have become even more dramatic. 1courier barks a laugh, as he pilots the ride onto the street of the drop-off location. Couriers do not pause before the drop-off. Soon he would be able to examine the tank. Then he would know for sure.
Five minutes later and it’s 1courier with another completion. Now to find out if there is an empty tank, or a faulty gaslight. Three miles later, 1courier pulls into a small parking lot, beside the road.
The full gaslight paradox
After careful examination, he decides there is no way to find out if the tank is full, or empty. He is going to have to go with the old adage of better to be prepared. Therefore he moves to the trunk of the ride. He opens it and pulls out a large glass bottle filled with booze. All the ride needed was extra fuel for the combustion engine. This would help them make it to the next fuel station.
The m-com link lights up. HQ has additional work. He grins. Now he knows what he will be doing after the fuel station. 1courier lets the ride idle, while he returns the glass bottle to the trunk. He closes the trunk lid and the ride takes off. It races away, spraying dirt and gravel, in its wake.
1courier stares after the ride. The road is long. There is only one other place where a courier belongs. Further up the road.
