Tales of the Courier

He sees himself rolling out from the assembly line for the first time. It’s obvious from the looks, that he is something unique. He knows he is state of the art, yet basic, and able to grow exponentially. Also he takes to the track as though he was born to it. And in a way he was.

With this in mind, he is still a ‘prototype’. Similarly, there will be testing and adjustments. Then there will be more testing. All for the honor of being the first. When he is done and becomes the very template, for the next generation, the game will be forever changed.

The next memories are of the first road trip done autonomously. In fact, it had been a cinch. Easy. Furthermore, the software was smooth. Additionally, the code was crisp and snappy. It is a thousand times better now. Then new memories of being put into active service.

The first assignment, or partnership, was with the slumped over courier, in the driver’s seat. The creature is slumped over and unconscious. Moreover, this is not a surprise. The soft and squishy couriers, have no exoskeleton…

1courier snaps awake! He is in the driver’s seat and must have passed out. He vaguely remembers a spectacular off-road experience. And winces when he feels the huge knot, on his head. He must have been dreaming. Something squishy…with an exoskeleton. Furthermore, he has a profound sense of being watched.

Looking slowly to the right he finds the robot looking at him stoically and motionless. It’s a little strange and he decides to smooth it out with some observation. Therefore, he speaks to the robot. However, he thinks an image thought and sends it to the ride.

“Squishy?”

The horn honks once, and the robot looks back to the road. 1courier takes over from the self driving machine and stomps the accelerator pedal to the floor. The powerful machine leaps forward and soon they are out pacing all other traffic on the highway. The m-com link flashes, and 1courier is not surprised.

Furthermore, it seemed HQ wanted the robots to become more active in the field. Similarly 1courier wanted to become more active on this delivery. So far, they weren’t seeing eye to eye. Or sensor to eye.

Within, minutes, they are in a more remote part of this world’s highway system. Therefore, 1courier stops the ride, and gets ready to toss the robot out. The ride will be lighter, and he can move faster. He looks at the robot. The robot looks at 1courier.

1courier’s next new memories are landing on the side of the road, after he is tossed from the ride. He is up chasing the ride immediately as it barrels in the opposite direction. So far the new arrangement was going well. They were getting along swimmingly.
