Tales of the Courier

1courier jambs the accelerator pedal to the floor. The old earth muscle car drops down a gear and roars away. Leaving the strange machine from HQ in the dust. Furthermore, 1courier grins at the robot as he races away.

He isn’t concerned about HQ’s request at the moment. He is intent on racing the bucket of bolts. Additionally, he is intent on proving the mettle of human driving skill. The old hot rod has an antique rear view mirror. Therefore 1courier checks on how far back the strange and uniquely shaped vehicle has fallen. Maybe even catch a look of surprise on the robot’s face.

He barks out a laugh at the thought. Furthermore, the field of vision in the mirror, is quite empty. 1courier does a double take. Nothing. He had been sure he could smoke the robot’s strange vehicle. Additionally, he was sure the robot would at least put up a good fight. He was almost disappointed.

He drops the speed of the old muscle car, and only then notices the dot on the horizon ahead. Not only is it kicking up a trail of dust from its off-road traveling, but also it has completely smoked 1courier. He is now way behind the robot, and the incredibly fast and formidable, vehicle.

1courier guns the motor again, and the tires shriek, as they bring the power to the road. He knows he won’t catch the robot. It’s too far ahead. He is gaining on the vehicle slightly, but they will be at the pickup location soon. He checks navigation and decides to go for the shortcut.

The dirt road intersects the main one, four miles ahead. Therefore, if he puts the hammer down, it will be a quick trip. The m-com link flashes. However, he isn’t budging. Furthermore, the race was on, and he was determined to win. This was for the honor of all human couriers. And to arrive at the pickup location a little early.

He is almost to the intersecting point. Similarly, he is watching for the other machine to appear. And it doesn’t disappoint. However, it is directly behind him now. Additionally, it is so close he can see the robots face in the rear view mirror. 1courier snaps his head back for a double take at the mirror. The robot was smiling.

1courier very nearly wipes out from surprise. Furthermore, the strange and extremely agile machine zips around 1courier and the muscle car, as though they are sitting still. Then it accelerates in the extreme, literally leaving 1courier in its dust.

That one little thing

However, he discovers he isn’t alone as he scans the rear view mirror again. Indeed, he is now being followed by a large rack of flashing lights. Furthermore, they are the lights of the local traffic enforcement on Nalphia.

1courier watches the rear of the robot’s vehicle fade from view far ahead. Although he is impressed with the speed of the thing, he believes the radar detector could use a tweak or two. 1courier pulls to the side of the highway and stops the old muscle car on the shoulder.

The flashing lights pull in behind him and a brilliant bank of lights blaze on. 1courier is momentarily blinded as he steps out of the ride. He grins just before he is tazed. As he crumbles to the ground, he is thinking that the radar detector definitely needs work.
