Tales of the Courier

The road is four lanes. It stretches off, into the horizon. 1courier floors the accelerator. The rush of speed helps, but the horizon remains out of reach. He pushes on. Entirely ready to finish this delivery. In a rare occurrence, he already knows the next run. As luck would have it, the route is a seldom used highway that runs deep into the boondocks.

He hasn’t been to the boondocks in a very long time. Likewise he hasn’t been on a deserted highway, in a long time. So he runs the ride down the middle of the four lane highway. It would be a while before he reached the outer areas of this zone. Furthermore, it would be over in the next zone, where this delivery ended.

The sun is setting and the shadows are long. Night would be on him soon. It would be best to have the drop-off finished by then. Furthermore, there is still the drive back to the starting zone to consider. Therefore, this drop-off had to go quickly.

He was okay for this type of delivery. He didn’t mind the miles. Or the time on the road. In fact, that is why he likes out in the boondock deliveries. They are far away. Sometimes they also lead to adventure. 1courier downshifts and makes ready for the turn. From here, it would all happen in the zone next door.

This wasn’t anything new. They are used to completing work in other locations. That is why the first rule is, always know where you are going. As he zips along down the back road, he wonders where it will be this time. Indeed, he is ready to finish this. With this in mind, he slows the ride and begins to search the side of the road in earnest.

There would only be one chance to find the turnoff. He wouldn’t be able to come back around until he reached the top of the mountain. It was the only place to turn a vehicle around.

Special Delivery

It isn’t until he is almost to the top of the mountain, that he notices he missed the turn. He quickly checks the rear view mirror as though he has only just passed it. Instead of six miles further back. It seems impossible but he missed the turn. Somehow. Now he must find somewhere to turn around.

He continues driving slowly. He searches for a place to turn around. The road is extremely narrow, and there are cliffs on either side. So he inches his way upward. The road turns and winds its way up. However, there is nowhere to maneuver into a turn. Therefore, 1courier continues to climb the mountain. Way out in the boondocks. He feels like there should be a song for this.

Twenty minutes later and he has traveled another eighteen miles up the mountain. Still there is no turn around. Furthermore, he should have run out of road quite some time ago. He pulls to a stop and parks in the middle of the road. Then he gets out of the ride carefully, and looks out over the edge. He has traveled impossibly high on this mountain. Something is not adding up.

Guaranteed Easy

It only takes 1courier a few seconds to realize that something wasn’t adding up. The path up the mountain seems never ending, but it can’t be. Now he is in danger of losing the entire delivery, if he can’t get back to that turn. As he watches the clouds form far below his current location, he decides there is only one thing he can do. He picks up the m-com link and makes a call.
