Tales of the Courier

1courier stares at the m-com link. He is surprised at what he sees. He has the wrong robot. This isn’t the message he was expecting. Furthermore, this seemed like a glitch in the tech department. He had just traveled half a continent with this robot. The timing of this discovery is suspect.

The m-com link has been the only way to remain in contact with HQ. It is unimaginable that it could be compromised. Therefore 1courier is certain this is some form of glitch. The robot is still staring at him, however he is certain it is for informational purposes only. He grins. They are close to the drop-off location now.

Once this delivery is complete HQ would have the robot and 1courier would be on to the next job. Additionally he has heard rumors that the city of Deritrous has an overload of delivery requests. It is definitely a rumor worth looking into. The m-com link flashes again.

Expecting more details on the wrong robot, he checks the device. This delivery is going to happen, wrong robot or not. There is no further information on the robot. However they are diverted to an additional pickup. This feels unexpected. Being diverted this close to a drop-off, is not the usual way of doing things.

Furthermore he is concerned about the current cargo spoiling. It had been in the front seat of the ride for a while. Now the robot looks at him in earnest. From the front seat. Now he is sure the link is working. The robot gives a thumbs up. Yes. They were on the same page.

1courier takes the diversion course at the next turn. This would be interesting. He is curious to see how HQ will unravel everything once they arrive. Especially considering his job was pick up and delivery. Therefore the details after the delivery were for HQ. This pickup feels hastily added. Therefore, it likely has a glitch.

With this in mind he pushes the accelerator pedal to the floor. Likewise it is time to add a little haste of his own. This detour is holding up the whole delivery. Furthermore, it looks like it is going to be a drawn out detour as they arrive at the GPS coordinates. It is an empty lot. In the middle of an empty desert landscape.

The back roads

1courier checks the mapping system. Likewise he discovers it is properly calibrated. Furthermore, they are in the right place. This must be the glitch. Indeed, empty lots are not easy to deliver. He grins, feeling better about his grasp of humor. Furthermore, he is sure this will make sense soon. He doesn’t have to wait long.

The robot places a hand on the dashboard. It appears to be steadying itself. The ground underneath the ride begins to shake. Then dust clouds plume upward, and engulf the ride. Leaving zero visibility. The ground begins to shake even more savagely as the world all around seems to disappear.
