Tales of the Courier – No news is good news
Once upon a time, it was easy to tell one road hazard from another. These days not so much. Blanket policies were a chance to survive. Deviations were devastation, almost every time.
1courier opens heavy eyes. He is secured to a chair, sitting, maybe not in a chair. He tries to move and gets a jolt of healthy electricity. It is healthy because it is jolting. He grins, and is shocked again. Now he laughs out loud and grimaces. He bit his tongue on the last one.
“Are you sure this is a courier?” A loud voice and an even louder response.
“This is a courier, they said it would smell. This is definitely a courier.”
1courier can’t resist the urge to grin, and he is rewarded with another shock, then a short warning. “Be still courier or the shocking will continue”.
Good News
1courier grins again and gets popped again. This time he didn’t bite his tongue. However, he may have made some water. He almost laughs, but is convinced the strange voice is speaking the truth. Therefore, he remains still, for a few minutes.
He is certain they are aboard a heavy freighter. Moving fast. It is apparent they are being piloted by AI. Even through gravity stabilizers, the extreme speed can be felt. He was blindfolded, as well as restrained.
Furthermore, his captors were not local inhabitants. Firstly, he can hear their voice box translators. The electric, tin-like timbre of their voices, was unmistakable. With this in mind, obviously he was expected to understand commands.
Secondly, there was an agenda. This meant survival was possible. At least for now. The freighter pulls hard to the side. 1courier is smacked against the side of the freighter, and simultaneously popped with a high voltage shock. He locks up, hard.
The captors argue briefly. Then the shocking stops. 1courier is relieved. One more moment, and this time, there would’ve been water. He wonders where this is leading. What need was so great that it warranted abduction? Much less, the abduction of a courier?
Not only a courier, but also a smelly courier? What gives? [Read more here, link becomes a booklet]
