Tales of the Courier – An out front soliloquy
It didn’t take long for the sign to appear. It didn’t fade into view, it appeared from nowhere. 1courier was impressed with the display across the sky. Furthermore, they had the way-point marker. From there it had been a quick completion.
He had not expected the delivery to continue so soon. Indeed, he had become accustomed to the delays. They were useful for study. Nevertheless he was on the way to the next pickup. This was an unusual request. But then most deliveries, these days, were unusual to one degree or another.
With this in mind, he was ready for simple pickup and drop-off delivery. After checking the m-com link he discovers HQ is covered and will be processing the previous delivery for a while yet. Therefore he decides this is a good time for some rogue delivery. He grins. It’s been too long.
Tales of the Courier
The highway is cooling and the night is falling rapidly. Soon the twin moons of Nalphia would be full in the sky. This meant luminescent delivery would be the main feature for the night shift. He floors the accelerator and races the wind.
As the road runs under the wheels 1courier thinks about the robot on the previous delivery. It was still a mystery. There had been strange moments, but that was typical of most deliveries. Furthermore, they didn’t always end with a completion. The robot delivery had been one of the few.
Although he was expecting a long night of delivery he decides to get the first completion in the books. The roll is better after the start. With a quick maneuver he is off the road and blazing through the hard-pan dirt of Nalphia’s largest desert.
Travelers seldom ventured from the main roads of Nalphia. Not only were there no landmarks but also the magnetic poles rotated. Counter clockwise. All the time. Therefore some tech was not useful. 1courier grins, this was his kind of town. The road is far behind, but 1courier knows the path will illuminate within moments.
Out front soliloquy
Furthermore, it is a trail only known to couriers. The night darkens, as he races further away from the road. Once he has the trail it would be simple to pick up the first rogue delivery. He just needed the trail and only a courier can find it.
He checks for the mileage he has traveled so far. It has been thirteen miles since he left the road. He slams the brakes and turns the wheel. Now for the fun part, he speaks a few words into the brightly lit night. “All he needed was a wheel in his hand and four on the road.” * Then he floors the accelerator and spins the ride into dirt doughnuts.
Within moments a brightly lit luminescent trail lights up the hard pan dirt. Likewise the glowing tracks travel off into the distance. 1courier grins. Time to get to work.
